2004 stats, Carter vs. Marion

Points: 22.5 (C) vs. 19.0 (M)
Assists: 4.8 (C) vs. 2.7 (M)
Rebounds: 4.8 (C) vs. 9.3 (M)
FT %: 80% (C) vs. 85% (M)
3PT %: 38% (C) vs. 34% (M)
FG%: 42% (C) vs. 44 (M)
Minutes: 38 (C) vs. 40 (M)

Carter's contract: Marion's contract:
2005: 12.6M 2005: 11.3M
2006: 13.8M 2006: 12.6M
2007: 15.1M 2007: 13.8M
2008: 16.3 M 2008: 15.1M
2009: none 2009: 16.3M

Toronto would probably want Marion plus for Carter. I like Marion, but I like the idea of Carter. He would sell more tickets, if he is healthy and playing. Thoughts?

Sorry, I should have placed the info in that thread. I forgot about that thread. Do you like Carter as a player?

I am assuming you mean in an injury sort of way, because Carter is twice the player that Penny ever was. Stat-wise, there is no contest.

Did you ever bother to look up Penny's stats? Carter isn't as good as Penny was his injury problems aren't as bad though. He only missed some games because Bruce Bowen positioned his foot under Carter's when he took a J so he sprained his ankle when he came down.

I would maybe do a Marion, Zarko, Vujanic, Eisley for Carter, Murray swap.

From a basketball standpoint it is a gamble. Carter is better than Marion when healthy and a lot more exciting.

Rebounds and assists are pretty close. Carter is a career 24 point guy. Hardaway is only 16. No contest. On top of that, Carter is much more exciting to watch.

You said Carter was twice the player ever was. Who cares about career statistics? Penny's career stats when he was 26 are much better.

"Twice is good" was just a phrase. He is better , but not twice as good. His stats compared to Penny's when he was 26 is still not even close. Penny was around 20. Carter's were around 26. I will check back on Tuesday!

Chuck has left the building. I will not argue with him, I mean me. LOL

I will only post as Dave64, for what it is worth, if anything.

Joe Mooore is completely innocent on this issue. He has never met Chuck or Dave! LOL

Vince Carter has been injury prone all of his career, so why would we be willing to give up a guy like Marion who produces EVERY night and never misses a game?

Penny was named All NBA 1st team in 1995 and 1996.

He lead his team in the injury caused absence of Shaq O'Neal to some 85% or something winning record, avereging 27ppg during that period.

He finished 3rd in MVP voting that year.

He got everybody in his team involved in the offense.

Not for coincidence guys like Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott and co had their prime time when playing with Penny.

Anybody remember Rony Seikaly putting up big numbers (16ppg, 8rbg) with the Magic?

Penny could really carry a team. Even after his skills started to vanish due to injuries he lead the Kidd-less Suns to a first round win over the Spurs in 2000.

If not for his injuries he would have dominated the league for years!

Sure, Vince is a great scorer and exciting player (though Penny threw down a couple nasty dunks when being younger - Bradley? Ewing?)

And stats-wise VC might be better then Penny was.

The main differences I see between Penny and Vince in their prime is: Penny was a leader and a winner.

Its all right to call Carter a better player than Penny now (surprise!).

But to say he is a better player than Penny ever was is -imo- just bulldust!

Oh. Regarding the topic.. :)

Dont trade Marion for Carter!

More consistent, better rebounder, can score without running plays for him, better defender, less injury-prone, no problem being second or third option...

I like VC a lot. He is amazing, exciting, good shooter....

But consicering what Shawn brings to the Suns I wouldn't even trade him straight up for Carter!

I'm with Michael. Penny at his best was a better player than Carter.

Count me in the "Penny better than Carter" bunch.

During the MJ baseball years, Penny was the best player in the league.

We would regret trading Marion for Carter. We need to let Amare be our star. Nash can score from the outside. Zarko will too.

All we need is a shot-blocker in the middle. While I am not wild about "Tag" , he might be our best FA option.

I would be open to a Tyson Chandler trade. He came into the league too young, his best years are probably 2 or 3 away, but he should start developing nicely.

The Bulls are really anxious to use Tyson to help them move one of their ugly contracts. He has potential, but with his history of injuries I'm not anxious to take on the contracts of the likes of Jerome Williams, Eddie Robinson, or Antionio Davis.

Marquis Johnson on Fox just said the Marion for Carter deal has some interesting possibilities. He said there would need to be more players involved. He said the Suns would their 25 point a night guy in Carter, who could open up things inside for Amare.

I doubt Carter would get 25 in our line up. If he did, it would mean that the other guys--especially Amare--weren't getting enough touches.

We exchange 20-10-2.5 (steals) for 25-5-1. Not much gain there. Marion is a nice fit with the bunch we have.

If we need more outside scoring, Nash could oblige.
