What a depressingly typical response.

It's a "discussion" board. You can't have an honest "discussion" without trying to understand what people are actually saying. If there's a misunderstanding between what one person says and what another person thinks he says, the "discussion" gets frustrating. If semantics are in the way, addressing them can relieve the frustration -- at least for those who actually care about following the discussion.

And by the way, every poster on this board finds certain kinds of posts irritating. When I complain about what irritates me, everyone jumps all over me. So let's get back to our standard time-honored solution: If you don't like the content of a thread, don't read it.

Finally, if you start noticing that a particular poster's contributions always annoy you -- say, mine -- take advantage of the Ignore feature.

It is hard to get more news once the initial article is posted. At most, the article can be analyzed to see if there is some nugget that was overlooked, but after that the "news" element is pretty much done.

I don't see how 'zero expectations' are justified unless you're really concerned that Nash may be absent for half the season or more. Even if disaster occurs and we're missing Amare, KT, and another central player (but not Nash) the whole season, I think we'd make the playoffs--that's how deep we have become (and is essentially last year's later team), despite the lack of good bigs. Not a lofty goal, but an expectation higher than several teams have.

I understand that, but the "discussion" wasn't even about the news at all, which is why I commented. It was about the meaning of "zero" vs. "low" expectations.

But people have such a need to debate that their response was indeed the "typical response"...

I'm going into this season with ZERO expectation, but I can't wait to see what this team is gonna be like - I hope I'm as pleasantly surprised this year as I was last year... and the year before that!

So you definitely will be pleasantly surprised... anything above ZERO should do that ...

I didn't want to start a new thread and since this thread has turned into semantics )), I figured I would throw a different thought in here.

Anyone else besides me think this is not the best time for the Suns to be having training camp in Italy with the spotlight on the Vatican and all? I guess I'm just a worry wart, but if I were an American (which I am), I would think twice about traveling to Italy with all the uproar about the Pope and the general anti-American sentiment going on in the world. I'd still gladly go if I had the opportunity, but... why did this situation have to occur right before the Suns open training camp in Italy?

none of us is going to believe there's been enough progress until we see for ourselves in a live game the characterstic goliath dunks and above-the-rim moves that made Amare, Amare.

Banks making good impression

Suns fans' lasting impressions of Marcus Banks ultimately will prove most important. In the meantime, the first impression Banks is making in Phoenix bodes well.

He was here to play on the first day of informal workouts Sept. 11.

He often stays after scrimmages to work on his shooting with Suns assistant Phil Weber, the resident shot doctor who helped Joe Johnson and Boris Diaw. Banks' powerful upper body and quick dribble speed enable him to finish drives to the basket. And best of all, Banks is here to study the best at his position.

"I'm learning by the visual and watching the things that Steve (Nash) does in certain situations," said Banks, who is expected to ease Nash's burden at the point. "He's one of the reasons I came early. He's a guy you love to be around. He tells you like it is. I'm here to learn - whatever he can do to help me."

Gang's nearly all here
Kurt Thomas (looking as fit as billed), Raja Bell, James Jones and Jeff Varem played Thursday and Pat Burke arrived.

The only Suns who have not come to informal workouts are Leandro Barbosa and Diaw. Barbosa, coming from Brazil, had been battling visa delays but is expected to arrive as soon as today. Diaw is in Senegal with his father and will meet the team next week in Italy for camp.

Amaré Stoudemire did not attend the voluntary scrimmages Wednesday or Thursday.

On the House
Eddie House is a Phoenician for life, even if he was with the Suns just for one year.

House and his expanding family (wife Charlsie had twin boys Kalek and Kaden last Friday to join Jaelen, 5) will keep their home and fond memories here even though he opted for free agency and signed with New Jersey.

"It was the most fun I've had since I've been in the league," House said after he and fellow part-time resident Jake Tsakalidis joined the Suns' games Thursday. "Last year was a special moment in my life."

House, popular for his Arizona State roots and on-court flair, lost his rotation spot in the playoffs and did not figure on regaining it if he returned.

"They wanted to move in another direction," he said. "They wanted to upgrade the point guard position and had more wings so I wasn't going to have the minutes. I wanted to go somewhere I can play."
