That's how pleased he was at having to choose between Seattle and AZ.

It takes a minimun of 5 days for an agent to be certified.

Write this one off, folks. Holiday has been using and abusing us.

Screw em'

We don't need players that don't want to be here.

In fact, I think he didn't even consider us in the beginning at all. We were just a way to boost his market value.

Didn't he fire his previous agent recently...I don't disagree with you skkorp, but it could be possible that they just weren't meshing well after a couple of weeks....I don't know if he could blame the market for him on his agent, since he just hired him.

Doubtful, but maybe his agent was telling him not to sign with x team..whoever it was, and he will take the best offer out there.

Or x team might have pulled their offer, and holliday was set to sign it, but his agent told him not to...

if that team was seattle, and we possibly still have an offer out there, this could be good for us.:)

But who knows all of what goes on between player/agents. History has shown us plenty of fa's that use and abuse us.

Are you just taking a stab at it skkorp?

This is the second time within 6 months that Holliday has fired his agent. I think that shows immaturity on his part. If he's not getting offered what he "thinks' he's worth, than he fires the agent.

Skkorp I highly doubt this has to do with just Seattle and AZ expressing interest that has nothing to do with the agent.

This must be all about money and Holliday not happy with the offers on the table JMO!

No. I wouldn't do that. If I report it, it means I believe it, but I could still be wrong.

I really don't think Vonnie Holiday will sign here, under any condition.

Ehhh, slow down Skkorp and everyone. Did he say WHY he fired his agent? Perhaps it's Vonnie who wants to get the deal done with the Cards and it was the agent who was screwing it up. We don't know what the facts are yet.

Didn't he actually hire this new agent the same day he was in Phoenix on his visit to the Cards?
I know that's what as reported.

I'm with Jeff, no one has any actual facts yet, so any realistic interpretations about what is really going on would seem very, very premature, at this point.

I am with you on this one Skorp...I think he does not want to be here..I am sure our offer is better than seattle..I assume this to be the case - seattle would be holding out big bucks for douglas.. I think the thing that is working against us is that I am assuming holgrem and holliday still have a good relationship...but I kind of hope I am wrong..not sure where else we can get a defensive end..if suggs is gone and we miss out on holiday..I guess we can get someone in round 2. scary that we will be relying on wakefield, a round 2 rookie and dennis johnson..again..this is a worst case scenario..but there does not seem to be any decent free agents out there we want after holliday..

If Holliday flakes out, what about Okeafor. He has fallen off the face of the earth. Come draft week, and we did not sign a DE, we need to get Suggs, no exceptions. All these signings will be a little tarnished because our #1 need is still there. If the price is to steep for Suggs, then Robertson is our logical pick.

I assumed we did not make okeafor an offer for a reason..not sure if we did not like him that much or his price was too high..

From what I've seen of Okeafor, he's average at best. He can make plays against decent to poor tackles, but gets manhandled against good or better. Add that to the fact that (relatively speaking) he is considered weak for a DE, and can get tied up rather easily. I consider him about as good as Wakefield.

As for Holiday, I say forget him! Whomever he signs with will be lucky to get 7-10 games out of him a season. In my opinion, he's not worth the money he's demanding. Let him go to Seattle, I would love to watch Big or AC man-handle him!

Suggs is the tonic for our ills! I wish there were a way the Cards could package Thomas Jones and some draft picks to move up to get him. I don't see Suggs making it past the fourth pick! :(

I can't find a story on this anywhere. I'm sure you heard this Skkorp, but it seems like amazingly bad timing to fire his agent right now with Douglas about to sign.

Thanks Houdini, if I read it right it seems that he isn't being offered anywhere near what he turned down form the Packers. I bet he listened to his agents who told him they could get him much more.

"It certainly didn't help matters that the six-year, $25 million deal Cletidus Hunt agreed to with the Packers was worth about the same the team offered him this summer. He turned it down because he thought he was worth much more and now might not receive that kind of money."

This is ********!!!!!!!! News out that he is waiting to see what happens with Hugh Douglas.....He is using us right now, I say pull the offer and screw him.......... I was supporting signing him but he's not sure he wants to be in Arizona...... We are being used to up his value... We don't need someone like this......After hearing that I would just rather keep what we have a draft some help.

Yea he is using us, and for good reason. When Hugh Douglas is signed he will be the only top FA DE left, that means he will hold all the cards and will get an extra mil a year and he knows it. Yea it sucks for us but it is a smart business move for him.

Here's that story courtesy of online Packer News (whoever they are). Please note that it's dated from 2 weeks ago:

Last Updated: March 1, 2003
Apparently frustrated with the way his free-agent experience has gone, Green Bay Packers defensive end Vonnie Holliday has informed teams around the National Football League that he has fired his agents and will have new representation within five days.

Skkorp - I strongly suggest you either revise or take down the story tease on the front page.

Darrell Urban's story in the EVT (relayed via KFFL) does report that Holliday isn't sold on the Cards and wants to see what develops regarding the Seahawks and Hugh Douglas. (Apparently a probable Douglas signing by Seattle was derailed because Jacksonville jumped in late with a "knock your socks off" offer and is now the front-runner).

I think Jim may be right about Holliday not wanting to be here, but I'll throw out a second nearly as plausible scenario.

Right now the Cards have the best offer on the table, but if Seattle loses out on Douglas, maybe they can be scammed into increasing their offer to Holliday so that it exceeds the Cardinal offer.

If true, you can't fault Holliday or his agent (whoever that is) into playing their cards adroitly. (If it meant more money for YOUR family, wouldn't you play your cards close-to-the-vest, too?)

Jeff, I think you're right. Holliday still has his agent. He might be playing us, but if we're talking to him as much as it sounds like, I don't think it's foregone that he'll never sign here. Sounds like THIS guy is trying to get the best possible deal regardless of where it is. Here's the full bit from the Tribune article:

"On top of that, the Cards continued serious contract negotiations with free-agent defensive end Vonnie Holliday, so Cardinals vice president of football operations Rod Graves said through a team spokesman he was unable to contact Smith’s agent, Eugene Parker.

But the Cardinals will make a serious offer to Smith soon.

The Cards have also made a push for Holliday, trading multiple contract proposals with his agent over the past couple of days. Holliday is apparently unsure whether he wants to come to Arizona, since he has decided to wait for Hugh Douglas’ free-agent situation to be resolved.

Douglas is ranked as the No. 1 defensive end on the market. He could re-sign with Philadelphia or go to Seattle or Kansas City. Holliday is Seattle’s backup plan if it can’t get Douglas, and Holliday might draw interest from the Eagles as well if Douglas goes elsewhere."

I was listening to the new GM of the Bengals on the radio the other day. His philosopy is he absolutely does not want anyone on his team who does not want to be there. He told his players if you do not like it here come see me and we will see what we can do. Seem like the Bengals are making some nice moves and like the Cards are trying to dig out of the abyss.

Seems to me like the Cards are doing the same thing.

Aaargh! I've been had!

I get Bloomberg press releases earlier than they appear on the news wires, thanks to a guy who works for Bloomberg in New York.

This time, a very late and errant release hit my inbox. Many apologies.
