HILLSDALE COUNTY — Vote now for the 2025 boys basketball reader’s choice player of the year. We have five nominees to vote for who helped lead their teams to championships or winning records this winter sports season.

Readers can vote multiple times from now through Friday, March 28 at 11:59 p.m. In addition to a reader’s choice winner, the Hillsdale Daily News will select their own choice winner after voting has closed. Accolades, stats, game results and leadership all play a factor in the player of the year honors.

Brody Adams – Senior – Hillsdale
Not enough can be said about the impact Brody Adams had his senior year for Hillsdale varsity boys basketball. The senior helped lead the Hornets to the program's first Pool A title in years with wins over Jonesville and Reading. He helped the team win their first district title since 2018 with big wins over Jonesville (58-52) and Hudson (62-57). He had a game-high of 27 for the year, 328 total points, 13.12 points per game, 4.84 rebounds, 3.12 assists and 1.72 steals. This included a field goal percentage of 58.38 and a 3-point percentage of 31.45. He earned 21 points, three 3s and five rebounds in the regional semifinal game against Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central. Adams earned second team all-LCAA honors.
Mikey Plemmons – Senior – Hillsdale Academy
After an incredible senior season at goalie for the Colts soccer team, senior Mikey Plemmons followed it up with a stellar year for the Academy boys basketball team. The senior led the Colts to a sixth straight SCAA East championship with a 14-0 record in league play. The team won 18 games, including a run to the Pat Patterson Pool B championship. He earned Pool B MVP honors. Plemmons helped lead the Colts to a 56-30 win over Reading in round one of the district semifinals. The senior had 13.3 points per game, 4.1 assists per game and 2.6 points per game. He had a single-game high of 31 points. Plemmons was named the SCAA East MVP all-league honoree.
Caleb Blonde – Sophomore – Jonesville
After earning first team all-conference his freshman season, sophomore Caleb Blonde followed it up with an even more impressive 2024-25 performance with the Jonesville varsity boys basketball team. That effort led the Comets to 12 wins this season, including a seven-game win streak in the middle of January. His 16.9 points per game helped him earn Cascades Conference Dream Team honors as just a sophomore. He was on the Pat Patterson Pool A all-tournament team. Blonde shot 34.4-percent from the field and 73.5-percent from the free throw line. He had 58 3s, shooting 34.1-percent for the year. He averaged 2.5 steals, 2.6 assists and 3.4 rebounds each game. He had a single-game high of 29 points this season.
Landon Monahan – Senior – Waldron
The 2024-25 winter sports season turned out to be a special one not just for the Waldron boys basketball team, but also for senior captain Landon Monahan. The senior helped lead the Waldron Spartans to the district 119 championship, breaking a 16-year program drought and securing themselves an appearance in a Division 4 regional semifinal. Monahan helped lead the team to an 18-7 overall record, including an 11-3 conference record. Monahan had 14.4 points, six boards and three assists per game. The senior also shot 72.7-percent from the free throw line. He scored a season single-game high of 29 points during a one-point loss to Hillsdale Academy in the Pat Patterson tournament. He also scored 28 in a non-league win over Springport. He earned Pat Patterson all-tournament honors and first team all-league from the SCAA East.
Thomas Maier – Senior – Will Carleton Academy
Senior captain Thomas Maier would help bring back a championship to the Will Carleton Academy boys basketball program in his final year with the Cougars. Not only did the Cougars bring home a CAC conference championship, their first league title since 2013, the team set a new program record for wins in a season. Maier helped the Cougars to a 17-6 overall record this season, including an undefeated 8-0 run in the Crossroads Athletic Conference. Maier finished the season with 13.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.3 steals and four assists per game. He finished his career as a 1,000-point scorer, and he earned WCA records for steals in a game (13), steals in a season (105), steals in a career (282), and 3 pointers in a career (117). He earned first team all-league and Pat Patterson Pool B all-tournament honors. He had a single-game high of 34 points this season.
