High school girls basketball in the Topeka area was excellent this season. There were plenty of big wins and buzzer-beaters around the city, which made for an exciting winter season. Four teams reached the state tournament last week, each with a key player who has made numerous impacts on the court.
Vote now for the Capital-Journal's girls basketball player of the year. Voting closes at noon on Friday, so here are the nominees.

The senior became Seaman's all-time leader in points, assists, and steals this year. She led the Vikings to the Class 5A State Championship in back-to-back seasons. She was excellent in the state championship game leading the team with 28 points. The Drake signee was named the United Kansas Conference player of the year.
The junior led the Eagles to the Class 3A State Championship game for the second consecutive season. She was also named All-Big East League first team as one of the top guards in the state.
Hanni scored a game-high 19 points in the title game. In the state semifinal, she went 15-for-17 from the free-throw tying the Class 3A State Tournament record for most free-throws made in a game.
The senior led the Wildcats to a third-place finish in the Class 4A State Tournament. She eclipsed 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career as she heads to Coffeyville Community College next season. Ramsey scored a game-high 20 points in Hayden's third-place victory over Buhler.
The sophomore helped Washburn Rural qualify for another Class 6A State Tournament appearance. It was the Junior Blues' fourth straight year reaching the state tournament. Vickery, who is committed to Kansas State, was the leading scorer for the team this year. She led the team in scoring with 12 points in their lone state tournament game last week.
