Deacon Avery is the latest Florida Power & Light Athlete of the Week following a stellar week for the 12-2 Niceville Eagles baseball team.
One of the area's hottest bats, Avery is hitting .419 with five home runs, 20 runs, 14 RBI and a .528/.837/1.365 slash line. Now it's time to decide the next Athlete of the Week.
Up for the vote this week is a fresh crop of state medalist wrestlers and softball and baseball stars. They'll vie to join an eclectic crop of past winners that includes Avery, Kase Armstrong, Dante Core, Izzy Harter, Carter Marracco, Belicia O'Grady, Carlos Ottoni, Carnley Summerlin, Ana Colon, Donovan Dark, Eddie Love Jr., Kane Lafortune, Justus Donahoo, Fred Libby, Camrin Pearson, Michelle Melancon, James Opitz, Hunter Tarchalski, Evelyn Brandman and Dylan Louthain.

Voting runs through 2 p.m. Friday. Vote now, vote often.
Chloe Bailey, Niceville: Bailey struck out 13 batters in back-to-back wins over Tate and Fort Walton Beach for the 6-2 Eagles. She has 75 strikeouts in 41 innings to go with a 5-1 record and .68 ERA.
Phillip Bearden, Paxton: In a 2-1 week for the Bobcats, Bearden went 3-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, four free passes and two extra-base hits.
Coleman Borthwick, South Walton: Borthwick is having himself a year and it especially showed in a win over IMG Academy, Florida's top-ranked team and second in the nation. The junior went 2-for-2 with a grand slam and six RBI and reached in all three plate appearances of a 7-6 win.
Ryan Darrow, Freeport: In a 3-0 week for the Bulldogs, the senior went a collective 8-for-11 with nine RBI, four runs and two stolen bases.
