Another great job, Walter. What do you think of Mac's chances of keeping his job? Think he should? And lastly, who do you envision as our next head coach?

Interesting take on Mac and his mindset against opposing teams Walter. It seems in the media he goes out of his way to not give opposing teams bulletin board material. His assessment was correct saying Pitt looked like a team ready to kick our ass. But all teams are going into a game to not lay down, but, in fact, kick the opposing teams ass. The last two weeks we had that attitude and won. This week evidently Pitt had that attitude and we forgot to bring ours. Mac was too focused on Pitt's game plan of kicking our ass to tell his own players to kick their ass. I don't want to read too much into this thing, we simply lost and need to do better this week and beat Cleveland. We've got to bring a foot on the throat attitude and never let up till they're thoroughly beat. We've got to get mad again...and take it out on Cleveland. Sorry, Cleveland someone has to take the brunt of it...and it aint gonna be us.

When Mac said that the Steeler's looked like a team that is ready to "kick our ass" he did not stop there. He continued to talk about the Cardinals mindset and what they were planning to do. However, only the first part of the quote gets printed and everyone jumps to conclusions.

I don't see how a writer can blast someone for something they said when the writer is nowhere around to hear the whole quote. It is unfair and inaccurate.

Red desert: I believe that if Jim Fassel becomes available, and he wants to be the head coach in Arizona, the job will be his. This is simply my opinion. I think Mac has made some strides...but if the bottom falls out like it did last year it will be hard for anyone to justify his return. The last couple of wins were tasty, no doubt. But, these lopsided blowout losses are hard for any organization to swallow.

Jim O: I always appreciate the excellent job you do providing us with all kinds of information as a Cardinal insider. Thank you.

For the record, I read ALL of Mac's statements in last week's press conference. Did Mac provide an explanation for what the Cardinals were going to do to combat a team that he said looked like it was "getting ready kick our ass?" Yes. However, when a coach makes a statement as startling as Mac's...the context doesn't seem all that relevant or mitigating. If Mac had said, "Well, I've got news for you, we're going to kick their ass"...then you've got a stronger point. Mac didn't.

That is my point. You said you read all of the statements that were printed. That may be true. However, did you have access to all of the statements that were said? No.

You never get everything. The media will print what they want. That is why you hear so many players and coaches say the ever popular "it was taken out of context" line.

Almost true Jim.

When Mac answers our questions from "Ask the Team" we print everything he says :D

But then we don't get paid to stir things up. Actually we don't get paid for this at all.

Methinks too much is being made of what the coach says in a news conference. Much of it is just hot air. It is how his team performs that is important.

While I agree you can pull a QB much more often than everyone thinks you can it still wasn't necessary.

We ran the wrong formations....we called the plays in the wrong order on the wrong downs.

We were predictable and really have been for a long time. I hate two wr sets against a great/good run defense because you lose either way.

If you try to run they stop it and if you try to pass you aren't scaring anyone with only two wr to cover.

Conservatisim reins supreme and don't get me wrong there is nothing at all wrong with being conservative if you can do that and remain superior to your opponent it is the least risky way to win by definition, however some opponents are going to have weaknesses that aren't up the conservative alley to exploit.

Pittsburg has them, they have been demonstrated and there is a reason they were 2-6 we however ignored it and did what we felt like. We scored 3 points that way they had 7 at half game over.

The stats for Pittsburg go like this 3-0 leading at half and 0-6 when not.

Vermiel quotes stuff like this daily maybe Mac should have had a longer talk with him..

Tough for me to complain since I didn't see the game but I do wonder about the comments about Blake not handling the blitz. I think your statement that you can't blame it on the WR's to an extent is wrong, you absolutely can. Look at how many times this year on blitzes we've wound up with the ball going one way and teh WR the other, either Blake is terrible at hot reads, or his WR's are. Given how they keep starting Blake, and both Sullivan and Tolbert have been quoted about misreads by WR's, I assume the problem is the inexperience at WR and not blake.

Teams are doing what they should, gang up on the run, force us to pass and then blitz. Until Blake has the confidence in his WR's to make the right adjustments, you're going to see some uncertainty. early in the year he made throws that got picked in part because of those reads, now when in doubt he's holding the ball.

So he may take some sacks that bother us but I'd rather have a sack than a pick and in case nobody's noticed he hasn't thrown one the last 3 games. If he comes back next year with this same group(and hopefully a new big play guy) I think you'll see a much more confident QB because he'll have more confidence in his WR's than he does now. Right now he's got the choice of making hot reads and throwing the ball trusting his WR will make the right read, or being careful, which is what he's doing.

i didn't get to read the whole piece, but opening paragraph...i think Mac's point was that everyone was dogging the Steelers, saying they had lost 5 in a row as if they were chump change and i think he just wanted to make sure his team didn't start thinking that way too....
