Walter, great article and lots of thought put into it. If the Cards decided to move down, were able to pick up two mid to late 1st. round picks and picked up Rivers with one of those picks, would you consider that a good move?

40 Year Fan: Thanks for all the positive feedback you've given me the past few months. I really appreciate your viewpoints and consider you one of the most passionate and astute fans on the board...whether we completely agree on a subject or not.

I will give you a tidbit from my next week's article. There are three players in this draft that I think will be major difference makers early and often throughout their pro careers. They are QB Ben Roethlisberger of Miami (OH), WR Mark Clayton of LSU and DE Kenechi Udeze of USC. If Roethlisberger is taken at #1 or #2, I would like to see the Cardinals trade down, add an extra high pick and snag Clayton or Udeze.

I, like everyone else, am high on DB Sean Taylor of Miami. But, I think the new coaches will bring out the best in Adrian Wilson and Dexter Jackson.

Honestly, I marvel at Philip Rivers, but I am not sold on him enough to want the Cardinals to take him in the first round.

The player I hope the Cardinals will be able to steal at #33 DT Marcus Tubbs of Texas. However, it's likely that Tubbs' stock will rise after the combine when scouts see how explosive he is.

Great article as usual, Walter. Question: what is it about Roy Williams that makes you list him as third best wr coming out?

One minor nit, Michael Clayton WR LSU, Mark Clayton WR Oklahoma.

Otherwise great as usual.

I like Tubbs a lot too my one concern is his injury history in college, reminds me a lot of Mark Smith although he never had as serious a knee injury. Very similar player too remarkable combination of strength, and initial burst.

Several college coaches said the equivalent when it came to signing Rivers as a QB. I can remember statements during his FR and SOPH years concerning the "hitch" in his throwing motion. The only people who seem to worry about his delivery now are ESPN game analysts and Kiper types. I have seen prbably 90% of NC STATE's games since he arrived. All Phillip has done is mature as a person/leader, gotten stronger, improved his accuracy and kept STATE competitive in a bunch of FOOTBALL games. I believe that some team IS going to take him in the first round... and they will be glad that they did. I guess I will only be able to imagine..."RIVERS TO BOLDIN.... TOUCHDOWN!!
