looks like they are placing the movie either in or right before draenor,..the portal is in place,etc...

I am pretty excited to see this one as well...it is doubly exciting because the ol'lady and the kid actually want to go see it too.... Jen has been counting down to the release date,lol.....which really cracks me up because she just cannot stand it when I go on a gaming binge.

the critics appear to hate it...which is what I expected, and that gives me hope for the overall quality of the movie....because the gaming nerds have loved it so far..

I saw one critic go on a rant because the armor was so gaudy and unrealistic...which made it obvious said critic had never played the game

The armor was unrealistic in the movie about a fantasy world full of monsters, dragons and wizards? LoL, wow.

I knew there was no chance of this getting any praise from the critics they are just way too cool to even give a film like this a chance. It's definitely a guilty pleasure thing I don't really think they are going for any Oscars when they made it.

membership has slipped the past few years...I am sure the main success meter for the movie is rather or not it brings old players back and some new ones as well....it could look like a flop by box office standards but still be a huge success for blizzard.

but I think it will turn a profit at the box office as well.

19% on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics, 8.1 on IMDB from the non-critics. Interesting.

Found this somewhere else and it just makes me lose faith in a lot of the critics:

Okay, just got home. I went to see this with my ol'lady, daughter, and my daughters friend Jake.... none of them have ever played Warcraft.

The consensus among our group is that it was an enjoyable movie...as a wow player...it appeared they went out of their way to explain a few things...making statements that were "obvious" to me,.... but the people I was with did not ever have the feeling they did not understand what was going on.
The CGI was well done...there were a couple places where it was obviously CGI...but we are talking moments among hours... the movie was 2 hours and 6 minutes long...and it seamed short to our entire group.
This was not "Blockbuster" good, like avatar,...but it was a decent movie...and for a video game adaptation it was very good...

as a player...it actually explained a couple of things that I had never figured out while playing.
We saw it in IMAX 3D and it was worth seeing in that format....this is one we will add to the dvd collection when it hits the stores.

Gonna see it tomorrow after getting free tickets through "T-Mobile Tuesday."

By the way, anyone on T-Mobile needs to grab the app. I believe this upcoming Tuesday is a $20 MLB gift card.

I just got home Oaken. First of all I need to write two short reviews, one as a full on WOW nerd, and one as my regular nerd self:

WOW nerd review: I freaking loved it!!! I haven't played the game in like 4 years but I played a ton back in the day so this was all like wownerd heaven! Hahaha it was so freaking fun seeing all those old places come to life. Ironforge, Stormwind, the Orcs and my favorite dungeon of all time, KARAZAN! I thought it all looked amazing and all the subtle nods to players were cracking me up. It was funny cuz you single out the wow players by ear because there was scattered laughter at certain times when inside jokes came out. It was just a lot of fun and I so hope they make a sequel cuz I want to see where this goes! They could do so much with this universe.

Regular nerd review: I honestly think it's an enjoyable movie for you guys. It's not perfect and it gets really sketchy towards the end but honestly for 3/4 of the movie I was totally thrilled at how not terrible it was, infact it was good! There was lots of humor, some decent drama... I thought most of the writing was solid, a very good plot, identifiable villians who you hated, and SPOILER ALERT........................., a couple of deaths! (Take note Marvel, not even the movie based on a game where resurrection is infact possible, do they puss out so hard as to bring back the dead. It was SO REFRESHING!)

So friends, my verdict is, it might not be the best movie you'll see, but if you open your mind, let your geek flag fly for a while and give it a try; you might enjoy it! It's total fantasy tho so if you aren't a fan of fantasy in general it's probably not for you.

As a Warcraft nerd I thought it was pretty decent. Absolutely not a great movie by any means, but entertaining. Visuals were possibly the best I've ever seen in a movie and the fan service nods here and there were pretty cool. (The murloc)

The story was far too rushed, the dialog was weak, and the acting was a little cringe-worthy at times. ("This is the greatest pain I've ever felt in my life.") It's a shame that they cut 20 minutes or so because it definitely needed to be longer. They zoomed from scene-to-scene without establishing the characters or explaining much.

First half for me was a 4, but the second half was an 8. So, as a Warcraft fan, it gets a solid 6 or 7. My GF who is a casual WoW player actually liked it more than me. She caught a lot of the nods as well.

If you go in expecting a deep plot and a well fleshed out fantasy world you're going to be disappointed. Game of Thrones this is not. But if you're a sucker for visuals and / or are a Warcraft nerd you'll probably be happy.

So those who enjoy movies as movies and not just pictures, it's about a 3 out of 10...gotcha ;)

Almost feels like a bit of an insult, but whatever. ;)

Look, as far as popcorn flicks go you can do a LOT worse than Warcraft. Sometimes it's fun to be taken on a visual ride for 2 hours. The story and acting were below average but the effects were flat out amazing. We saw it in 3D and it was one of the few movies that did 3D extremely well. The movie was a visual feast. Plus I'm a bit of a Warcraft nerd. Combine the two and I'll admit that I enjoyed it despite its flaws.

But if you're someone who needs every movie to be "The Lobster" then you're going to hate it.

my ol'lady is highly critical of most movies...I tribute that to a short attention span on her part... but she really enjoyed this movie...which I find hilarious because she absolutely hates W.O.W. and always gives me **** for gaming.

in reality, my opinion is that it needed to be a three hour movie. At 2hrs 6 mins it came up a bit short of fleshing out the entire story...but I am sure the producers decided three hours would limit the box office stubs.... it was however a much better movie experience than Watchmen, which went three hours...

My kids love gaming and so do I. Yet none of us have a desire to see the movie. My son who I thought was a lock watched the trailer and said...yeah..no..this looks bad. So, we will wait for the rental.

I've read that they cut out a lot in order to shorten it to 2 hours. Duncan Jones wasn't thrilled about that either and has said that the directors cut will add another 20-30 minutes. Definitely needs it. The pacing was far too fast during the first half of the movie as they jumped from scene to scene without establishing the characters very well.

The second half of the movie seemed to flow a lot better. Probably because it was focused more on the action as opposed to building the world.

Not an insult, just a joke. Most of what I hear about this movie has been corroborated on this thread: that it's a terrible movie, but it looks really pretty.

officially the most successful video game adaptation ever...

http://www.pcgamer.com/warcraft-bec...m_source=facebook&utm_campaign=buffer_pcgamer

the U.S. market was a bit weak at just under $40mil... but china kicked in $45mil on the very first day......... considering we saw sequels out of Tomb Raider(and even a possible reboot) and we got a sequel out of Hitman.... there is a pretty strong possibility this will not be the last time we see Azeroth on the big screen.

Having played Warcraft for many years I decided to see this even though I knew it would most likely be terrible. If you never got into Warcraft there is no reason to see this movie. It's really bad. If you were into Warcraft you will at least enjoy the world of Azeroth come to life on the big screen. But yeah overall it's just a bad movie.
