I am concerned about spending that much money for a guy who probably won't stay healthy. If we re-sign him, then we need to make sure we spend some dough on his back-up, 'cause we might see a lot of him.

Amazing to see his dedication via the press to the Cards. I've NEVER seen any player say the things he has when they enter FA.
Name ONE player the Cards have that was going into FA that said they wanted to stay.
Warner is a class act.
Rats said:I like that Warner wants to keep building something here with the Cards, however if the $15 million is all guarenteed then it is not a good deal for the Cards as it would use up $5mil a season for the next three seasons. I can not see Kurt lasting 3 years and the $5mil the 3rd season would be an albatross. I would only want to gaurentee him $10mil of this and 5mil a season so the last year we can cut him loose if he is done. We will need a better backup than Navarre so we better be prepared to pay someone there to.

I also don't think Warner should be dictating who or what we go after in the offseason (although I do agree with him on the o-line issue), he has neither the pedigree or history with this team to make such demands.
I understand your point and it is a good one but how much of it do you guarantee? Kurt reportedly wants 7mil a year. Do you gaurantee him two years or $10mil. He would not accept just one year of it gauranteed or $5mil IMO. We have had dead cap space almost every year from some player that was cut. We have nearly $2mil this coming season. I would not like to see a signing bonus of $9mil and three years of base at $2mil for a total of $15mil. I would rather it be flipped and guarantee only a small bonus and the rest be based on making the roster. Qb's with a high profile like Kurt usually want a big signing bonus and He would probably get it in FA. I don't know that the Cards should do that with his injuries.ajcardfan said:You don't guarantee it all upfront. You give him a bonus, and guarantee the based on making the roster each season. It's really pretty simple. The Cards have structured EVERY single free agent contract since Graves has negotiated them to where, if the players are cut after year one, we absorb no additional cap hit or clear cap space. This deal should be no different.

Aaron Brooks? Heck no, he already held out for money once before in New Orleans.
John Kitna? Who cares, even if he did take less money he isn't the guy that will lead this team over the hump.
Warner is going to re-sign, and if any of you don't like it oh well, deal!!
