Exactly. He likes to pretend that he's better than everyone else, more principled, more religious and holy, but in reality he's just like us. Drop the front, Kurt, say that you just wanted to get paid. Forget the thought that it's about respect, that you're shocked it wasn't easy, because you're getting respect and you're not making it easy. Just admit that you wanted as much money as you could get and that you used the whiners as leverage. It's the truth, the world knows it, and the idea that you're operating 'on another moral plane' (his agent's words) is ********. You're just like us, so stop acting like you're better.

All right, I'm done with this. I'm going to wait it out. Warner's antics got under my skin and I don't want to keep ranting.

A front? Kurt Warner took us to the Superbowl. I have been a fan for 28 years and had never experienced a season like that. He broke records and will go down as a top three QB for the Cards, maybe even the best. You think that he shouldn't seek compensation for that. I don't think that he wants to be paid for the past but realizes he took less money in the past and needs to be compensated for placing himself in the top echelon of QB's in the NFL. Nothing wrong with that. If you have a problem with that...go tell your present employer that you want a lesser salary because you are a good guy.

Is Warner’s offer more about money or playing and holding on to that starter’s spot?

It is set up so The Cardinals have little choice but to keep him around for both years of the contract. He is basically asking for 19m for 1 year or 23m for two.

I think he is afraid that if it isn’t set up this way and the team struggles next year at all he would be replaced by ML at the first opportunity. If the Cards are paying him 19m for this one year they will be slower to pull the plug. So he is using the money to make sure he gets a fair, or even slanted, shot at holding on to the starting job. I don’t know if one is better then the other but it really looks like he wants to play as the starter for the next year without the worry of being by ML.

I just would have hoped he and his agent wouldn't have lied about it, that's all.

Edit: Lied as to what this was about. They played dirty in negotiations. That's fine, but don't do it and pretend that you're abovie it. That's grossly dishonest.

Thinking that we have all of the information is grossly negligent. I don't assume to have info. because the media makes claims and assumptions. They are in the business of us(fans) relying on them for info. They may be assuming a lot and stirring up sensational hype. I would if I were in their shoes.

To claim that KW and his agent lied and played dirty is not truth. This is opinion. I have not heard a word from the Cards and we will eventually hear from Warner and his agent.

I kind of miss the days of reading the USA today to get info.(pre-internet and ESPN). It was never this nasty.

Please. Tell me they didn't use the 49ers for leverage. And, his agent specifically said Kurt would never do such a thing, because he's not on that kind of moral plain. Sure in the heck sounds like down-and-dirty negotiations to me. IMO you can't say he didn't play dirty in negotiations; it's blaringly obviuos.

I'm just glad he's now signed. We can put all of this talk behind us.

MESA! :thud:
He's getting a bad rep because he purports publicly to be one thing, while conducting himself in a manner contrary to that.

Case in point, today the 49ers are denying they ever made Warner a "formal contract offer", while ESPN is reporting SF offered substantially more than the Cards but Warner then said he wants to stay in Arizona and will take less to keep Boldin.

So Kurt and his agent leak to ESPN a big offer from SF but make themselves look like nice guys willing to give Arizona a discount.

But SF denies ever making an offer and local media reports indicate the 49ers are not happy with warner and his agent because ,surprise, they feel he used them that he intended to stay in Arizona all along and just used SF to get a bigger offer from the Cards and so he could claim he's giving a discount.

Who knows what the truth is but that's why Kurt is getting bad mouthed, if he did was SF says, he deserves to be bashed.

From March 2nd:

Who thinks Warner is doing this so he can take the lesser offer from the Cards & say, "See? Look how awesome I am! I had this offer to take all this money, but I stayed with you guys for much less because I'm dedicated to this team..."

Blah. Go to SF, Kurt.

I live somewhere
I've said it before. KW professes to be all holy and godly, and then exudes two of the seven deadly sins: Pride and Greed. The whole hurt feelings, they aren't respecting me, I shouldn't be treated this way schtick: Pride. The Greed? Normally he'd get a pass, because players would be stupid not to try to get the money. Still, we've heard that he wants money for past performance, he's run off to a rival to try to drive his price up (while his agent lies and says he wouldn't do that), and now he and his agent have lied about getting an offer of more money from 'Frisco.

You can give to charity all you want, and talk about God all you want. When you act like he and his representation are acting, it exposes you as a fraud.

I couldn't agree more with Stout. in his press conference today he said "it was never about the money." Really Kurt? cause a few minutes later you said that you wanted your fair market value so I guess it was about the money after all.

I will never dismiss the good he has done in his life and thats great, but he is also a hypocrite and a liar for the way he handled these negotiations.

that being said, lets win some football games.

Kurt Warner is an attention hog and he managed to dramatize one of the easier signings in history along with our FO playing bumbling keystone cops for stage props.

The saga just rolls on.

If we get to another SB and he throws another game losing pick 6 I'm going to run outside of my house 3 blocks away and start screaming my butt off like a maniac to avoid going postal in front of my family.

The irony here is hilarious since Kurt Warner is telling us that he did precisely that, told his employer he wanted less money because he's a good guy and wanted to stay in arizona.

Of course his potential employer in SF is denying they ever made him a formal offer, they just discussed the numbers Warner wanted but made no formal offer. Sounds to me like his agent said we want X, the 49ers said that's too much, and they parted ways. Kurt then decided to end the charade and take our offer, but not before his agent leaked to ESPN that Kurt had been made a better offer by the 49ers but was taking ours.
