say he makes the 14mil he wants next year...you really think all that is gonna go to ppl in need? not even a million of it would
Most of it would probably go to Kurt, Brenda, and their seven kids, but some of it would probably go to charity.

His position on the $$$ is totally reasonable and I understand why he would want as many weapons as possible. That said $10-$12M is more than fair and I really don't see him leveraging us on the Q deal. One of the top 5 qbs can have success with Fitz & the receivers we have as proven in 6 of the 7 games Q missed this year.

As far as the $$$ my bet is a relatively large chunk goes to charity (more than 10% because a church tithe for a guy like him usually starts at 10% then you have all the foundation work he does). But aside from dispelling the perception of him as greedy, who cares what he does with the $$.

IMO, Warner is not being greedy and the Cardinals are not being cheap. They are negotiating. Time is one of Kurt's better points of leverage. He can afford to delay, the Cardinals need to get on with signing other players. Warner's agent could be figuring that by waiting until free agency begins he might come up with a huge offer that will force the Cardinals to raise their bottom line. Even if that doesn't happen, and I don't think it will, what does he have to lose by trying? The Cardinals probably alredy went about as high as they plan on hoping to resolve this prior to free agency. It will work out reasonably, just not on the timeline I would like.

As time has rolled on I now believe Warner will not be signed by the FA deadline and will entertain offers from a few teams if there are any interested. I say if any ae interested because many teams are either starting a rebuilding program of their own and wouldn't start with a 38 year old QB. Then there are teams that are set at q and would have no interest at all. Then there are teams that would not be attractive to Warner. Let's face it, he wouldn't want to go to Detroit.
In essence I don't think his phone will be ringing off the wall. I'm sure there will be some interested parties but not as many as you would think.

I can live with this. Let him find out what the open market will bring and go from there. Hypothetically, lets say the Bears were to offer him 14 m a year. Well , Warner would need to make a choice. Go with the Bears for 14m, cold weather, no receivers and an aging defense or take, say 11m, and stay with the Cards and an offense perfectly geared to his style.

Drastically overpaying for Kurt is no guarantee we make it to Super Bowl 44. There are too many parts that need to be upgraded.

I think Jeff Golin said it best. Maybe we should offer him a 3 year 24m deal with 20 guaranteed. That would be an 8 m a year cap hit. Front load it a bit and we can absorb a smaller cap hit in year 3.

Sometimes I wonder how much of it is Rod, and how much is the Bidwills. A snail's pace would be fast for them.

As someone posted a few days ago, $8million for Q and $10-million for Kurt and lets play ball.

here you go

Of course not, but I bet a lot more of it would than most any other player that got the same contract.

2 years @ $20M and incentives that could make it $28M...

Per year:

Base Salary: $10M X 2 = $20M

$1M for Pro Bowl X 2 = $2m

$1M for Playoff Berth X 2 = $2M

$2M for Super Bowl Win X 2 = $4M

Totals: Base + Incentives = $28M

This way the contract reads up to $28M which gives Warner to kudos he deserves...and the incentives to keep his and the team's focus on the prize.

It seems that God told Kurt Warner that he needs to get paid

After the Cardinals' devastating loss in the Super Bowl, Kurt Warner, undecided on whether or not to continue playing football, said he'd "get all the information [he could], sit back and pray about it and see what God leads [him] to do."
Sometime between then and now, Kurt and God had that talk, and God must have said something along the lines of, "Kurt, go forth and get that cheddar. Dollar dollar bill, y'all." Via Pro Football Talk, here's what Kurt told Sporting News Radio:
“I’ve never been about the money, although I do know that money means commitment in this business,” Warner said. “My bottom line is I want to keep this team together and I want to have a chance to win a championship and that’s the most important thing, and I want to be compensated as well because I know these are probably going to be the last two years I’m going to play and I’m in a great position, having success from being at the Super Bowl and being a free agent.
“It’s a good position to be in and where I’ve maybe taken a bit less over the last four or five years while I’ve tried to solidify myself. Now, you’re in the position to maximize some things as you move forward and end your career and go on in the future.”
I love how the quote starts with, "I've never been about the money," but then, in so many words, ends with, "But I'm going to need more money." Odd how it always, always, always seems to come down to money, even when God is in charge of the negotiations.
I wish at some point, someone would just admit it. When is someone going to come out and say, "Yeah, I want a lot of money. I want so much money that I can personally hire Yahweh's People to live in my bedroom and perform every morning as my personal alarm clock. I want to be able to afford to travel to all road games in my own personal Popemobile, and I don't care what anyone thinks about it." I think we'd all respect the honesty.
Anyway, Warner's agent joined the "Let's get Kurt more money" chorus. From the AP:
Agent Mark Bartelstein said Warner deserves a salary among the top “four or five” quarterbacks in the league, no matter where he plays. According to Bartelstein, those five earn an average of about $14.5 million per year.
In an interview with The Associated Press Tuesday night, Bartelstein declined to say what the Cardinals were offering.
“It’s unfortunate,” Bartelstein said. “I thought it would get done quickly, but it hasn’t. We’ll keep working on it.”
My guess is that the two sides will eventually work something out, but it might not be as soon as anyone would like. The Cardinals know that Warner doesn't want to move his family out of Arizona, so they can afford to wait him out a little bit.
It feels like Warner wants to be there, and it feels like the Cardinals want him to be there. And if they want to retain any of the "We're Not a Laughingstock Anymore" momentum they built up, they can't afford not to re-sign him.

:lmao:

Too bad God didn't tell Kurt to take what is reasonable rather than $14-16M a year. Maybe God told him to test FA, but act like he's still interested in being a Cardinal? :(

I'm not sold on Matt Leinart, but I don't think the Cardinals should over pay on possibly Kurt Warner's final NFL contract either. Let him test FA, I doubt he'll find anyone with enough cap room and willingness to accomplish this. :bang:

im just sayin its too much to pay him. hes bein stingy imo

+1. Way to go Kurt. Ask for almost double what any other team would pay for you, use a majority of the available salary cap, and then say that you want to do what you can to keep the team together.

I personally think 8M is borderline too much.

i don't wanna say it but if all this talk is true, i've lost a little respect for kurt.

Why? Because he's trying to get paid as well as possible?

This **** cracks me up. No matter what the circumstances of any contract situation with any player, the fans side with the front office against the player. Every time.

In a situation like Boldin's, what do we hear? "Football's a business." "Honor your contract." "Nobody forced you to sign on the dotted line." "Crybaby." "Whiner."

Then, in a situation like this one where a player isn't under contract, what do we hear? "Greedy." "All about the money." "I've lost respect for him."

Where are the comments that "football is a business" then? Why is it perfectly fine for the franchise to maximize profits and somehow not fine for a player to try to maximize the money he is paid? How does that make any sense?

Actually, with the amount of resentment I see from fans against players every offseason over contracts, it's a wonder anybody manages to summon up any enthusiasm for rooting for those players come fall.

i'm glad you're not in charge of signing him...if you paid the guy the 14-16 million that his agent claimed he wanted... you would have a lot of people pretty irate.

again we do not know if kurt himself wants the 14-16 million, or its just his agent being an agent...but we will find out...

Please point out where I said that the Cardinals should pay him 14-16 million per year.

What's that? You can't?

That would be because I didn't say it. You're responding to a post that wasn't written, and I find myself wondering if you actually read the one that was posted.

His total pay for 2008 was relatively 8 million, so this is probably a non-starter.

I like the 20M over two years, that the team has put on the table, and if the national pundits are right in saying that his value on the open market is between 6 and 10M, more than fair.

Right now the Cards are negotiating without a clear picture of Kurt's value, negotiating with themselves, so to speak. If there offer is unacceptable than let him go out there and find his true worth.

If someone offers him top 5 money, and he insists that the Cards match the number... then IMO... let the Leinart era begin!

That 10M will come in handy in dealing with Dansby, Q, Wilson, etc.

i said 14-16mil was too much and you got your panties in a bunch. you started defending him as if it wasnt to much lol. all i said was if he really isn't going to play for less that 14-16mil he's being stingy. because he is not, at this point, worth it.

like i said we do not know if kurt himself wants the 14-16 million, or its just his agent doing his job

I say let him walk. It will only hurt until Matt takes us to the playoffs next year. I'm sure that will help lessen the sting. I think re-signing him at all is debatable.

Agreed. Less Bible thumping money chasing, more beer bong pouring co-ed chasing!
