I think it is funny that Timm says to start Warner because of his great game tonight and other posters response is "It was 4 passes against Den backups" or "Warner didnt have the pocket collapse" But...

Now Lienart is the next coming of Christ because he played well against THE SAME DENVER BACKUPS!!. Seriously I understand rooting for the guy but give me a GD break. If you ONLY argument for Matt to start is that he did well against the Denver backups then you really don't have an argument. Warner has shown he can still WIN at this level against the starters and Matt has not . Period.

I do think there is a contingent of irrational fans rooting for Leinart, however it is nothing compared to the hate spewed by the anti leinart crowd. The same folks who get a viagra for any diamond in the rough like mclown and would trash warner have now embraced him, can't get over the fact Leinart scoring tail most of you could only dream of. Maybe even he was hammering your daughters hot friends? I can smell the jealousy.

I personally am rooting for ML, if he does beome successful, the haters will rally around him and in their irrational warped minds defend him as he hammers and inpregnates every hottie in the valley to the cheering massess. It will be very entertaining.

in the meantime, I will continue to hammer away at the unwarranted hero status tim fumbles hightower has attained.

I think he's talking about when Matt tried to throw it to JJ on a checkdown and it ended up being a backwards pass. So basically it's considered a fumble. But etheir way I think Leinart looked good even if its against backups.

I still think people are making too much of the Oakland game. He's played well in 3 of the 4 preseason games. It's not like he's been stinkin it up the entire time.

Like Pariah said, why was his outlet 3 yards behind him? That's on the back, IMO. He HAS to be in front of Leinart because the QB will probably try to dump him the ball if he's in trouble; that's why there's an outlet. I wouldn't fault either Leinart or Warner for a play like that; it's good QB instinct.

I thought it was hysterical how Shanahan ripped into his defenders after that play. I could see him mouthing some swear words along with 'fall on the football!'

Put it this way: preseason, no preseason, backups, no backups, Leinart proved that the arm strength argument is utterly ********. Make your call, Whis, and I'll support it, but Leinart showed major stones coming back with that kind of confidence, hanging in the pocket and making dynamite throws. For my money, stick with Leinart but, like I said, your call, Whis.

Agree... and you get the hat trick:

I guess you bring up some indisputable points, but little of that is relevant to matt's play on the field. we know he can score off the field lol. he needs to translate that. again he had little problem at USC, but to that that in the NFL will take time and patience. then people will shut up. I'm in his corner because of his on the field abilities.

I myself am rooting for Lienart as well and when it comes to his "Off-field" activities I think about it this way. If my job had a constant video on me and my personal life I would have been fired before I got the job. LOL. I WANT him to take over as the qb of the future, if you are rooting against Lienart you are rooting against the Cardinals. He was our 1st round pick and should have everyones support, but that being said RIGHT NOW Warner gives us the best chance to win IMO and should be the starter. Im soo sick of building for the future.

I remember the people who would have took Mccown or Shaun King over Warner, some people take their personal feelings and apply them to football and it doesnt work, especially when 90% of the fans havent even MET the player but pretends to know his whole life. I agree with you 100%

Ummm. Actually its probably the fartherest thing from We havent even heard who the starter is for the opening game and you are saying its a dead issue? LMAO

This topic has been beating, scrutinized, put under a microscope so many times its become mundane. I think we all agree that we just want to hear who our starter is going to be.

Until then, its :deadhorse:

From ESPN: Leinart was 10-of-14 for 177 yards and a score, all in the second quarter against what amounted to the Denver junior varsity.

I trust Wiz also and hope that this will be his decision not the FO.

Matt had 0 turnovers lasts night.....

Fumbles FUM LOST REC YDS
M. Leinart 1 1 0 -2

They got pressure on him, he moved up in the pocket, a defensive player went to wrap him up, he tried to make a play but ended up throwing the ball behind him into the ground. Lateral fumble, Denver recovered.

Not a big deal, he still had a good game. I was just refuting a person's post that if Kurt had the pressure that Matt had on a couple of plays, Kurt would have turned it over. My answer was You must be talking about what Matt just did.

Backwards pass that JJ should have been able to handle. If JJ is two yards in front, thats an incompletion. You could make an argument for either, but given JJs track record for dropping easy screen passes, its hard for me to pin 100% of the blame on Leinart.

Nevertheless, Leinart's QB rating went from a 2.8 to a 130. Huge improvement.

It's the same thing people bash Kurt for all the time. Trying to be the hero instead of taking the sack. It is what it is A Dumb play. And yes he played good overall like I said. The trouble for me is he played a good game 1 V 1st team D, He played bad Game 2 v 1st team D, he stunk it up against 1st team D game 3 and game 4 V the 2 3 4 looked good. Kurt played the same all 3 games. IF and I say IF you go head to head Matt V Kurt preseason against 1st Team D Kurt won end of story. Should they start Kurt I do not know there is more to it than that. But Whiz said the better player will start so if that is true it's Kurt.

It looked to me like the ball didn't make it to JJ and was rolling/bouncing to him. Still - I agree that Leinart looked 10x better than he did at Oakland.

He was getting hit he throw it on the ground.

How could Matt or Kurt not look better? 1 team played 1st team with blitzing and shifting the other team played 2nd 3 4 team with vanilla D.

It's like plaing the Pats one week Atl the next.

True - that's why I expected Matt to look better and he did. When he was under pressure last night, he seemed to continue to go through his reads. At Oakland, at the first sign of trouble he'd lock on to one guy and under throw them.

I'm sorry that statement just made fall off my chair laughing. It reminds of Jeff Foxworthy "you might be a redneck if". All you have to do is substitute Warner or Leinart for redneck. In TJ UofA2004's case it would go like this

"You might be a Leinart lover if", you completely twist a situation around to remove blame for a poor pass into the ground, backwards, when pressure was put on.

Do I think your exclusive in your love for one of our QB's, no, there are many of you Warner/Leinart lovers out there. You say JJ's record for dropping easy screen passes, is that what you call that ugly nose dive in to the ground pass that Leinart threw. Look Leinart threw the ball with authority and had a lot of zip last night. He also had plenty of time to throw and took full advantage of it as he should. Arm strength is not a problem with him at all. Only thing that tends to affect his game is when the fronts are changing and he is not sure of where they are coming from. He will calmly know where to go with the ball when this happens at some point, and this will come with time. Warner looked good as well last night and made some completions that were amazing. I sit in the end-zone and his first or second pass that was completed in the middle was impressive. From our vantage we witnessed a small window open to the receiver, the ball delivered between three defenders, and then close just as fast. The funny thing is when it left his hand it looked like it had nowhere to go. Warner's scramble up the middle was funny as he hobbled forward, Matt probably would have turned that into a big gain. All in all they both looked good against back ups. Side note: this was St Pierre's worst game by far and it showed why he is a back up.

That's true I did not see that until you said it. He did keep looking. I say that as a good thing not bad.

Laugh all you want, but you're wrong to pin this play on Leinart as you are. Leinart did exactly what he was supposed to...found an outlet receiver open and tried to get him the ball. Normally, no harm in the incompletion. Problem is, JJ is supposed to be IN FRONT of his QB, and he was not. I'm not saying Leinart shouldn't have recognized the situation, but it's pretty clear that play was far from being ALL Leinart's fault.

Sigh.... Its never enough. Did anone happen to catch that throw Warner made against Champ Bailey???? Oh....

Did anyone see all those passes Leinart threw to Boldin and Fitz and even Breaston.....Wait a minute...

It goes both ways. He played against scrubs but he also made big time plays WITH SCRUBS. Just because you have heard of the AZ guys and not the Denver scrubs doesn't make them any better really. They are all back ups.

I think the only thing conculsive we can pull away is that Matt is the better QB at home and Kurt is better on the road.

What that means - I have no idea?

The quarterback maintains full responsibility for the ball. If your back is out of position, take the sack or throw the ball away. If you decide to throw the ball backwards you have to make sure the ball gets there. Are you saying that Matt didn't know he was throwing it backwards? The thing is if he makes a decent throw there, JJ had room to run. The truth is you don't know if Leinart took his full back drop, as he is notorious for stopping short at the ire of his coaches. Anything else just sounds like the sun got in my eye, my dog ate my homework, or I left my money in my other pants. His game other then that play was very good as he was putting the ball in great spots for his receivers to make a play. If the question is asked of Matt, he will man up and say it was his fault. Why can't you do the same?

Guys--It was a f'd up play. Yeah, a lot of the fault resides with ML, but it wasn't exactly a boneheaded play. The pocket broke down, he didn't panic and he knew where his outlet was supposed to be...it turned out to be a tough pass (across his body and behind him).

Despite that play, he had a very good night. Of his 4 drops, a couple of those were thrown right where they were supposed to be.

The voice of reason. I can't wait for Cardsloco to get mad at the quality of beer at the stadium, and blame it on Matt Leinart.

I didn't absolve the kid of blame; just trying to shed some perspective and point out that, yes, someone else screwed up on the play and that it helped create the turnover. As much of a hater as you are, loco, even you can't deny that JJ messed up too.

First of all, "hater as you are"? Since when have I been a hater.Read all my posts, that play is the only one I have criticized from Matt this year. As far as complaining about the quality of the beer in the stadium, it will never happen. I know how to tailgate, so I have consumed more then enough beers before hand not to care about the quality of the beers inside. Quantity is a different story, and I blame Fitz for that, as the Cards need to make more money to pay that fat contract of his. Why stop at blaming JJ, wasn't it the line who didn't keep out the defenders. And since we are on a roll the receivers didn't get open fast enough so they must share the blame. Wait we can't forget Payton, as he sent in that poor play and didn't coach his players to run it right. So I will agree with you and change my thinking to go with yours. The entire team caused Matt to throw the ball into the ground, backwards, and should share the blame.

Stout, I am only kidding, but you don't have to get hateful because I think that Matt executed poorly on that play.
