I think this tells us everything!!! No way Matt starts week 1 now. Warner is going to play with the first unit and it signifies it gets him some reps before the opener. Whiz can spin it anyway he likes...But it would make no sense after seeing Leinart play like he did against Oakland, to have him play with the 2nd team...no chemistry and no win situation for him...I see Warner starting week 1 ....gauranteed.

In fact goto ESPN and the Cards Preview ...they have Matt gone after this year and Warner starting week 1...Why would they post it agin if they were not sure after the Mortenen issue?

Oh no, Peyton Manning isn't expected to play this week. Sorgi to the rescue!

I'll still contend that Matt is the starter until he has publically stated otherwise. If he throws another 3 INT's next week, that might change. Matt will start Game 1.

Yea, KTAR is reporting it as well. Strange that is was insinuated that Matt was still the starter, and he may be, but now Warner is going to run out with the first team. I can now firmly say, I don't know who will be the starter against the niners.

??? Does the article or the radio show insinuate this?

Anyway I have no idea who the starter is gonna be. I will go with whatever Whiz decides.

Another point is that some of the Warner supporters should eat some crow for RIPPING Whiz and saying that he was not giving Warner his chances, and that he was lying about the QB position not being up for competition.

This goes with consistency that Whis has used all preseason. They've switched starting for the 4 games ... Leinart, Warner, Leinart, Warner

It probably means nothing in the grand scheme of things other than to confuse the 49ers.

Im a Warner supporter but never said Whiz is not giving him a chance. I just think he is giving Matt all the benefit of the doubt and wants him to succeed. I honestly don't know why though? I mean Whiz didn't draft him and his salary isn't very much....You know there are 20 QB's out there like Matt Leinart sitting on the bench. Josh MCCown played well for us quite a few times and he goes from team to team.

I agree with this. Because the 49ers game plan is going to be different for each...I still say now Warner starts....Whiz didn't want to crush Leinart after the Oakland game....But I think ESPN is right.

To ...... prove...... again..... that...... ESP...N .....has!!!!! no... idea.....

what they are talking about.

Why on earth would the get rid of Leinart after this year ? There are no salary implecations, no real reason to do so.

That is the dumbest thing I have heard yet. ESPN has made this a us vs. Whiz situation and I sure of it. And yes, I believe ESPN is THAT spiteful.

Notice NFL.com and NFLN have nothing to say about this? Why is this SUCH an important topic for ESPN ?

Rugby...I think ESPN does know something...But Whiz doesn't want to Crush Leinart....He will be needed and I think he likes him personally. But ESPN could care less about Arizona...They have thousands of other more important stories honestly then to worry about us. They continue to say Warner will start and I think they are right...Whiz just didn't want Matt to find out like he did.

How many coaches have said "No way...I am not leaving....NO way...I am not doing this or that? and then 4 days later do exactly the opposite. The media now a days beats the coaches to the story and they have to cover their a$$.... In fact Les Miles would be in Michigan right now...if ESPN didn't leak the story..... Miles would have looked stupid to his team and school if he left getting ready for the Champioship game...but his heart and soul was in Michigan...His mentor was Bo.

ESPN has a 50-50 chance of being right. Who cares. It's Whiz's decision and I have no doubt he'll do whats best for the franchise whether you like it or not.

Brenda, we know you want your hubby to start but some of us prefer to leave it up to the coaches.

Just because Warner was named the starter for the final preseason game doesn't mean he's neccessarily the starter come opening day. I'd say the same thing if he named Leinart the starter this game.
I agree. I was saying "huh" like - "Huh, imagine that for a plan."

I think they're leaning towards Kurt. Since the 1s are only going to be in for 1 or 2 series I get the feeling they're wanting to get Warner more reps with them before the season starts.

Just as I suspected. Warner will start. I also think that Leinart will indeed get a chance to come in and gain some confidense back.

For the record, I complain about people starting baseless Warner v Leinart threads.

Threads that are started in response to actual news reports, articles or blogs are great.

FWIW, Mortensen was just on the radio here in Columbus on Chris Spielman's show and they got to talking about the Cards. Mort said Warner WILL be the starter regardless of what has been said. I guess Leinart was acting like a total puss on the sidelines last week and that irritated the team/staff to no end. A scout was also on and pretty much said Leinart has been acting like a baby since day 1. I don't know if any of this is true but just what was being said on the radio. The scout went on to rip on Leinart saying he played 7 on 7 football at USC and now it's time play with the big boys and he needs to take big steps up to be a starter and get the respect of the team. Don't yell at me i'm just paraphrasing.

Kurt Warner will start the Cardinals' preseason finale against Denver.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said not to read into it, but it's pretty clear that Warner is in line to start the season opener. He'd probably really have to bomb for Matt Leinart to get the nod. Leinart isn't expected to take many snaps Friday. Aug. 27 - 3:52 pm et

Great. Exposing our entire 1st unit to injury for a stupid week 4 preseason game because Whiz cant figure out who is better. Jesus.

I know I know youll all whine about my post. What if Fitz or Brown have season ending injuries? Then what do you think about this decision. Every other team wont even put there second squad out this week.

Actually most teams play their starters for a quarter and that's it at most (as is likely the case with us since Somers reported they will only play a series or 2).

I'm not killing the messenger here but this has gotten downright goofy.

If Leinart was being such a pain in the ass, why hasn't anybody here locally reported it? That's not something that only a national reporter would know about.

Still sounds like he's trying to cover his ass due to his poor reporting techniques (using only one unnamed source and then reporting that source's opinion as fact).
