The Cardinals sacked Bret [sic - Burt] Jones 12 times. There was 1 uncredited fumble in the game it was not lost. The Colts also had 2 INTs.
I was at that game.
Regarding Warner - To me, the common pattern was that he held onto the ball too long.
When he was under pressure, he refused to take a step or two outside the hash mark and chuck the ball into the nickel seats.
When 8 or 9 guys dropped back, giving him all the time in the world, he took "all the time in the world plus the extra second it took to get hammered. Or he'd try to force the ball.
Result - He either took a coverage sack or threw a pick. And when sacked, he failed to protect the ball properly (something that typically would get a younger player benched).
What he should have done was to either throw the ball away or try to pick up yardage with his feet (something I imagine he and the coaches feel he is no longer capable of doing).
I guess there's a fine line between (a) hanging in there until you can finally hit a receiver who gets open and (b) holding onto the ball too long so that you either eat it or throw a pick. All I know is that Warner's ratio of good plays to bad plays is pretty close to what the Cardinals' W&L record was last year and what it is after the first 4 games this year - .500 and that's not good enough.
