Michigan State hockey defeated Notre Dame on Saturday night, 1-0, to earn their spot in the Big Ten Tournament championship game next Saturday in East Lansing.

A hard fought game, that saw the Fighting Irish make it very difficult for the Spartans to score goals, a lone puck found the back of the net, having just a single goal make the difference in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal.

That lone goal for the Spartans, that proved to be the difference as the game winning goal, came off of the stick of Isaac Howard just 19 seconds into the third period. The powerplay goal was assisted by Karsen Dorwart and Matt Basgall.

With the Spartans moving on, Howard's semifinal goal can be known as a golden goal, putting MSU in the position to win a second straight Big Ten Tournament championship.
