Yeah, some folks seem to neglect that the demand (and resulting cost) for Durant would undoubtedly have increased in the offseason, not decreased.
Not to mention if Memphis has an early out, they too probably would have upped their offer realizing they needed some kind of superstar stud to lead that pack of knuckleheads.

I am not going to wade into this debate until the season is over. If we win the championship, it was a great trade! If we get knocked out in the first couple of rounds, the trade sucked and we way overpaid as @Mainstreet and @JohnnyCakes have been asserting.

In the meantime, sure is awesome to see Mikal shine as he has been unleashed.

I'm not the only one who sees the trade as I do. It in no way diminishes the talent of Durant. It has everything to do with the cost of the trade. I simply would not have made the trade for that price.

correct. Its the COST---what they gave up is inexcusable. Drives me nuts!

Price is based on value. The final value of the trade is not known at this time. Nobody is going to wish we could go back in time and undo the trade should a title come this season or next. The entire purpose of this trade is to win a title. If that happens, it's simply ludicrous to say the price was too high.

A couple years from now you could be right. However, people making some definitive conclusion right now is so premature.

@BirdGangThing

There are a lot of good life lessons to be learned from the movie, "The Neverending Story."

Yes, we need to learn to respect each other's opinion and agree to disagree when the situation merits, or soon there will be nothing.

I've always wanted an NBA championship, maybe at any cost. However, this is the first trade that made me question this thought process.

The Suns could have built off their previous core. I think they were very close this season with a couple of lesser additions.

As I view it in football terminology, the Suns threw a Hail Mary pass when they were moving the ball down the field and a first down was all they needed.

I hope the trade results in touchdown because the Suns were already loaded with young, maturing talent.

I like the football analogy. I'd say the trade was more akin to going for 2 for the win when they could have kicked the extra point for the tie and see what happens in Overtime. We won't know whether they made it across the goal line yet and were successful but there was no shame playing for OT.

Good analogy. Because with a Hail Mary you have a shot. You have no shot unless you actually put the ball in the air. Having said that? After two epic collapses the Suns last two seasons staying put seems more like a Hail Mary to me. Just my opinion. The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and hoping for a different outcome.

However, again, that's not the point I was making. People keep going on and on and on about how bad this trade is when we don't know how this turns out. We get it. In retrospect, if we don't win and this hampers our ability to build in the future this could be bad trade. I don't think that will be the case but I wont repeat why...again.

This was a title move. You can't judge the success of this trade until that plays out unless you have a crystal ball. I am not saying this is a great trade. I am not saying this is a bad trade. I am just saying people judging this as of right now is completely premature.

The difference being, the Suns were loaded for a title run, perhaps into the foreseeable future if they played their cards right.

Why throw the present and future up for grabs when the Suns were already setting there with a pile of chips.

I want the Suns to win a championship.

Perhaps where we differ, I saw other paths to achieve it. This is what is frustrating.

Were they? Two epic collapses, didn't make it as far the 2nd time (which was a historical collapse) and proved anything but being clutch in the playoffs with the roster as built. I think it's fair to say they could be competitive but winning a title? That's a stretch.

Again, one of the premises is that our future is compromised which I completely disagree with. I do think you are correct on our views on being a path. I did not see any path doing what we had been doing. We were futher away from a championship going from the finals to getting bounced by the Mavs.

Again, I like your analogy. Because in Poker if you keep calling every bet and don't take risks you never win a poker championship.

We haven't won a title in almost 60 years. Using that logic, every single trade we've ever made was a failure.

How good would the Suns have been if they could have traded for Reggie Jackson or Bones Hyland and a role playing power forward, perhaps like Jarred Vanderbilt?

These are only examples of the type of trades I'm talking about. These players were obtainable.

Good point but not exactly. This is easily the highest profile trade we have had and the most assets we have given up. Nobody is comparing that to the average trade this team has made.

The Suns issues IMO were we didn't have closers on this this team. Someone who can take over a game outside of Booker when he was locked down. None of those players would have filled that role. Also, I don't put much stock in wild speculative trades because it takes two teams to tango. We have no idea how feasible any of that was.

Doesn't matter. Barkley was a failure because we didn't win a title.

Trades aren't the measuring stick of whether you win a title or not. It's the players. And guess what? KD is still the best player in that trade, no matter how much Mikal scores in leading his team to a 1st round exit. And I like Mikal.

Those players wouldn’t move the needle to win a title.

I never said they were and I agree that KD is by far the best player in that deal.

You are right, we do not know which trades could have been made, that's why I used the word "type."

The Suns gave up some very good players who were vastly underrated by some.

They could have used a cold-blooded shooter playmaker like Jackson and someone who could have been a rotation player at power forward.

I wish the Suns current bench was deeper.

I agree that KD, when he plays, is the best player involved in that trade. Mikal is closing the gap but it's still a very noticable gap. But I completely disagree with your contention we'll only know if it's a good trade if we win it all. Too much luck plays into winning it all.

Let me clarify. As Chap pointed out the Barkley trade was still a good trade even though we didn't win it all. This KD trade IMO if we are real contenders IMO will still be a good trade IMO. I have said repeatedly that even if this doesn't turn out to be a title, I will be happy the Suns took a shot instead of doing more of the same. I am also not a believer that what we gave up will prevent us from doing anything. We still have every other pick, can do draft day trades, have a new and JJ has been resourceful. It will be more difficult but not impossible.

I was more saying the above putting myself in the shoes of people calling this a bad trade. The reasonings that keep getting repeated are if he gets hurt, if we can't make moves because we gave up too much. I can at least see the reasoning in those views once we know how this plays out. To judge before that seems ridiculous to me.

IMO, the Suns somehow needed to get a point guard out of those trade deadline trades.

If Cam Payne is inconsistent, I'm not sure if the Suns have enough. I keep waiting for Landry Shamet to help fill the void but he has been inconsistent as well.

Payne is showing some resurgence. Book can do it in spots. We have CP3 and at times Durant acts like a point forward. I don't feel as desperate post KD trade. It sure would have been nice though. I have been with you all season long hoping the Suns could move someone to solidify that spot.
