Should Watson and Smith be starters next year?

I think Watson shows more potential than Clancy and I wouldnt mind Smith replacing anyone on that line.

Gabe Watson has looked great the past few weeks. I rewatched the Seattle game on NFLN last night and what I noticed is that Clancy was calling more stunts and timed blitzes than we have all year.

Antonio Smith played very well in the game too. Each defensive stand, the team played like a true unit, for the first time in a long time.

So to answer your question, I think Watson should start and Smith should get heavy rotation as our DEs (Berry and Chike) get older.

I think Clancy and Watson ought to start at DT. Dockett should rotate in on passing downs.

Smith should get time, but no, he shouldn't replace Berry.

I too believe Watson to be a starter. Great picvk by Denny on this one as are most of his picks. As far as Smith very aggressive, great enthusiasum, Should be an every game first in rotational guy that can start where needed.

Don't you lose a little speed with Clancy and Watson both starting? Which would be the UT?

You don't NEED a smaller, speedier undertackle. Just ask the Ravens. If your DTs can keep the OL off your LBs, then you're golden.

Watson should be our starting NT next season, i agree. With one full (off) season under his belt i think he could become a dominant NT in 07. He will/should be in great shape by then. Dockett should be our pass rusher on obvious passing situations. He would be much more effective in our nickel defense.

Agreed.

Both those guys inside woud be nice to see. It would make Hayes & Dansby "that" much better.

the problem with Watson is I firmly believe he's one of those guys that has a maximum number of good plays per game, and if you play him too much, he'll start taking plays off . He's been great this year but I am not sure he can really handle much more of the load?

Anybody ever wonder about moving Dockett to defensive end? I know a couple seasons ago he was practicing as an end during the pre-season. It seems that he would make a decent Defensive end in a 3-4 alignment. I know Trevor Pryce moved from tackle to end with Denver and he plays pretty well as an end now. It seems like he has a good mix of power and quicks that he could be alright. Just wondering out loud. (I will probably try it out on Madden)

Another thing about Madden; Does anyone notice that they have Karlos Dansby as Middle Linebacker? They also inexplicably added Peter Boulware to the Cardinals roster. Where did this come from?

And you call yourself a Cards fan? Jeez Boulware has led the team in tackles in 8 games this year.

We've used three man lines a few times this season (not nearly as much as last year). The most often was the Lions game. Dockett did take some snaps at DE.

I hope by takes plays off...you mean conditioning not heart. I watched the Texas/Michigan Rose Bowl from 2yrs ago...man Watson is/was/can be a beast. Oh and Vince Young played two of the best big games in his last two Bowl games, I think I have ever seen. Amazing and cool as ice water.

I really have noticed Docketts effort increasing over our winning streak...he was a huge key in that final stop against Seattle.

If a guy like Ron riveria is brought in as the next Head coach, Watson will not be a starter and only be used in a rotation. Smaller more disruptive DL's is just the way he likes to do things as does a lot of other DC or future head coaches.

That and Russ has already mentioned another big reason.

I think we're in okay sharpe with Berry, Okeafor and Smith, but they're getting old.

If we can't find a full-time starter, then I would like to do the same as the Broncos. They use tweeners on passing downs with great succes. They drafted Dumerville and signed Engelberger.

I still have no clue why Pace isn't used on passing downs.

Because he stinks on every down?

I'll agree that he has been dissapointment. Flat out stinks.... No!

My point was that he was fairly succesful subbing for Okeafor on passing downs early last season. (basicly the only situation, where he has looked good). So, when we lack pass rush from our DEs, why don't Pace get a shot on passing downs.

Pace has been a huge dissapointment based on his draft status, but draft status is a sunk cost -meaning that you can't get it back. Why not admit that he hasn't lived up to expectations and use him the best way possible based on that?

It's like he gets thrown into the doghouse, because a 1st rounder is supposed to play better than that. Who cares what his draft status was? It's history! He's sitting on your roster, so why not use him in the best possible way?

Bach, that is too logical to work. ;)
