Although he's predicted to go 10-15, I don't care if we reach 5-10 spots for him if we can't trade out of the 5 spot. LaRon Landry rips it up as a FS a posistion we also need help in. 2003 80 tackles, 2004 92 tackles,2005 69 tackles and led the SEC with 8 break-up passes. He has 12 career picks at LSU. His biggest knock I found so far is that he gambles too much and gets beat on some plays. Big deal the same exact thing they said about Pacman Jones. He's also diesn't have charector issues like Pacman. We are crazy if we don't get him. He could have an immediate impact and make Rolle and Green play better if they are our starting coners.

They are both great but your getting something different with each one. Nelson is a pure cover FS who shuts down everything in sight. He is a fairly big hitter but his tackling skills have been questioned. He is also a great special teamer. With proper coaching and some added weight room work, I believe his tackling can be much improved.

Landry is a great tackler and has a knack for being around the ball. However, his cover skills leave more to be desired and are a concern. There's no doubt he is a great FS but he has some improving to do in that area.

IMO, I would rather go with the guy who is already a shutdown FS- Reggie Nelson. I might be biased because I've watched him play more but he is truly a great cover FS. It would be much easier to teach a guy to fundementaly tackle as opposed to teach someone coverage skills in the NFL. Whether Nelson is worth the 5th pick and what position the new coach decides to play Rolle are the real questions. Bottom line is a cover FS like Nelson would do wonders for our defense (not taking anything away from Landry, he should be good as well).

While we have other pressing needs, he would be a welcomed addition. Walters isn't the answer at PR and Ginn would immediately solve that problem. We could trade BJ (not gonna get into what our return would be) as Ginn would be an uprgade as 3rd WR and KR. Look at what Hester did for the Bears...... Ginn has that ability

Hester is a great specialist who was drafted at a great spot in the second round. Ginn will probably be a first rounder. Would you spend first round money on a specialist? It'll be hard to make sure all those 1st round picks (and a Boldin) would be happy with their individual production.

Hester is also a CB, meaning if he can develop he can help the Bears there, enhancing his value.

Ginn's got the problem of having Boldin and Fitzgerald ahead of him.

Because Landry looked so good on paper thus far, I tried to zero in on him during the LSU - ND game.

He wasn't impressive. When he had the opportunity to make plays (i.e. sack the QB in one instance, colliding with another DB and screwing up an interception on another), he didn't.

His playing style reminded me of a less physical version of Robert Griffith - always near where the tackle was made but more to back up the tackler or push the receiver out of bounds after the catch than to actually make the tackle himself.

Granted, it was only what the TV cameras allowed me to see in only one game, but I was hoping Landry would do something to knock my socks off and he didn't.

jeff, i think you will jump on the nelson bandwagon after the monday game...albeit i think ohio state is going to win convincingly.

Unreal, that guy has true breakaway speed. He certainly would add a deep threat to the offense. I would think about it, seems to complete the passing offense.

I thought GInn was pretty good at breaking tackles. That makes me think he has a good shot at being a star returner on special teams. Sure seems to solve a lot of problems, it probably will depend a lot on who we get for a coach.
