You all realize, I assume, that we're 8 & 5 and SF is 6 & 7 - a 2-game lead with three games left.

If we were to beat Detroit, lose to GB and be upset by StL, we'd be 9 & 7.

If SF were to run the table - upsetting Philly in the snow this week and then winning as expected vs. StL and Detroit, they'd be 9 & 7 and own the tie breaker. (Note - SF is built to run the ball and stop the run. Perfect for snowy weather).

Bottom line - If we win 2 of 3 games, SF cannot catch us. If we don't, we're probably toast. Since we'll probably be sizable underdogs against Green Bay, Detroit and StL become do-or-die games for us.

I guess one way to look at it is - "If we can't beat both Detroit and the Rams, we don't deserve to be in the playoffs."

(Note - I'm not giving up on beating Green Bay - just acknowledging that we'd have our work cut out).

There are all kinds of crazy scenarios.

Once we win and SF loses though, there will be no more. That's a virtual lock. My lock of the week is that we clinch the division this weekend.

Yeah, I can't see that happening, unless we lose the next two weeks.

Yep. thats exactly what would have to happen in order for us to be underdogs let alone BIG underdogs.

so the basic premise is that the cards lose at home to st. louis - but the 49ers win as expected against the rams and detroit

the two teams remaining schedule is pretty even - not sure why you would paint as a real scenario that the 49ers would sweep detroit and the rams while the cards would lose to one of them - despite the cards being a better team over the bulk of the schedule

SF is 4-7 against teams not from AZ and AZ is 8-3 against teams not from SF

Hey, ain't gonna happen. We are going out and win out. 9 ers will lose 2 of last 3. Just watch it unfold. Our big problem Monday night, we were so hyped to win it stemrolled on us. I "KNOW', you should overcome this, but you have to remember we are the :newcards:

The snow will hit Philly late tonight & all day tomorrow. I'm sure the field will be thawed out & in good shape for Sunday's game. Don't be surprised if the Niners keep it close with a chance to win at the end, but I love the fact that the game is critical to the Eagles. I expect teh Cardinals to win the next 2 & then rest some bodies vs GB

I love how people assume the Niners can just win out with ease or something! They have to go to Philly (one of the toughest road games an NFC team could have) they are gonna get smoked! Then their season will be over and wouldn't be surprised to have a big letdown and lose another one to either STL or Detroit. All we have to do is win a game at a time and we should end up in double digit wins, which will be huge since don't think they have ever had that in Az!

The Colts didn't smoke us, the Vikings didn't smoke us, the Packers didn't smoke us...all of those teams are better than the Eagles. Eagles' D is pathetic and they will get exposed again this Sunday.

If that was the case, the Lions would have been much better last year...they lost a lot of games in the closing quarter. Winning is about finishing. If I was a Niner fan, I would be bother by the fact that a team had 11 penalties and seven turnovers and all you could score was 24 points. The Niners have a GREAT defense but a horrible offense when it comes to scoring

They are the 10th rank D - you are 18th.

They are the 11th rank O - you are 27th.

You won't get "smoked" that's an exaggeration, just like your term "pathetic".

You are just going to get beat, and go into the off-season remembering two victories over the Cards.

Enjoy that for what little it is worth in the grand scheme of things.

All true but you're going to have to remind me again did the Niners win any of those 3 games?

The only team to smoke them all year was Atlanta, other than that they've been in the game.

Philly has problems on defense I agree and with the weather it will slow down Jackson and McCoy some and keep the game closer. I expect Philly to win but I don't think it's going to be a rout.

Jeff,
First off Happy Holidays to you and your family. We are two of the original Cards Corner guys from NJ- LOL.

Actually a huge part of the 49ers resurgence of late has been directly related to putting QB Alex Smith in the Shotgun Spread offense and throwing to TE V.Davis & WR M.Crabtree. I think (and hope) the snow & wind in Philly will actually hurt them more then help. Eagles will be able to just focus on Gore the whole game. The Eagles offense is made to dink & dunk to RBs & TE and that should be perfect for bad weather.

Lets Go Cardinals (and Eagles)!

I'll give the Niners their due. They have a hard-hitting tenacious defense that will keep them in most games. The problem with San Fran is they have an anemic offense. With 7 turnovers & a raucous crowd behind them, they should have easily put up 38-42 pts & probably much more. Even if the Eagles D was as porous as you say (they aren't - especially at home), the 49ers don't have the ability to expose it. This will be a dog fight & probably the best game of the day. When the dust settles, the Eagles will escape with a hard fought W, and the Cardinals will clinch another NFC West title. The Cardinal / Niner rivalry will intensify over the next few years because both teams are legit.

The Eagles average 29 points a game. The 49ers have scored as many as 29 points in a game once this season--against the Rams.

The Eagles are not the Rams. I just don't see how San Francisco can score enough to pull this game out.

Uhhhhhh, you have to have an offense to expose a defense. DeSean Jackson will beat your boys by his damn self. What is your answer for him? Coffee?? FOH.

Far from the truth. We are 18th with 20.7 and you guys are 11th with 23.5. When Alex is freed up to pass we can actually score alot of points.

Aww the yards total stats...you obviously know nothing about the game of football. It's all about points scored and points defensed or nothing.

Mark by words, Eagles' D will get lit up this weekend.

How will the Eagles stop Gore? I can't even name one respectable LB on their team. Like I said, that D will get lit up by a mix of offense from the 49ers. Vernon caught 3 TDs against the Vikings and he's about to make it 4 on the Eagles as they are the worst team in the laegue defending the TE.
