I read somewhere that he was shooting 39% from behind the arc

I'm trying to sugarcoat this pick now. :)

I believe I read somewhere that his overall three-point percentage is slightly over 40%. He wouldn't have been my first choice, but I did end up liking him more than Shorty.

The few highlights I saw of him make me feel a little bit better about the choice. Since that's the extent of my scouting I'll definitely trust the Suns know what they are doing.

Now I just have to get these two names programmed into my voice software. :)

the pick used to get barbosa is a suns first round pick not cleavlands.

Top 24 protected in year 1

Next 5 years top 20 pick

Looses protection after that.

Outstanding draft. Simply outstanding. Barby and Zarko - just has a nice ring to it.

Those other sites are probably giving the stats that he averaged in the serbian league.

Euroleague is where the top european team play for the european championship.

Euroleague is much better competition.

Yeah "Z" had about 8 games where he scored over 18 ppg out of the 20 or so games there. The problem with most europe stat pages is that they don't really keep stats, especially minutes played. Some of those games where he scored less, he might have played less minutes or got into foul trouble or injured and we have no way of knowing.

The point is, I hope slin reserves judgement a little bit. A lot of us liked the Amare pick, but were leery--I myself didn't want to wait for him to come around. Luckily, we didn't have to. We'll have to see how Zarko turns out. I am still really intrigued by him, like I said, because he is exactly the kind of player we need.

Yeah, Zarko was my guy for the last few months and then I started to move off of him and onto Badaine, Sofoklis and Barbosa as the draft approached. I still think he is a good pick and definately fills our biggest need (backup SF), which shorty and badaine wouldn't have. My only fear is that he'll be another Dan Langhi, but I trust the Suns organization to be very optimistic.

once the "maybes" were off the board (ridenour and gaines) my next choice was barbosa. i was a bit bummed, but ready to trust the suns when we selected zarko. when i returned to espn later this evening and saw the barbosa trade i went through the roof. almost as excited as the year we drafted finley (and yeah, i was more excited about the finley selection than any other draft pick we've ever made). if my enthusiasm for barbosa proves anywhere near correct as my enthusiasm for finley well . . . zarko will just be frosting. i'm stoked about this year's draft. my god, we just took one of the most athletic teams in the nba and just turned it up a notch. okay zarko and barby, time for english lessons!

That is the reason I am excited, those tall skinny euro SF/PF's really make a nice impact on teams...

He cant play the 5, but who knows how much weight he can gain with some work in the weight room, and all that fast food he can afford to buy now! ;)

I don't know... it's nearly half a foot shorter than Penny, JJ, Langhi, Stouds & Tsak...

Zarko was 9/42 in Euroleague three's over the last 2 reg. seasons and he's allergic to paint... I'm not sure a 'soft version of Dan Langhi' isn't a more apt comparison than the widely quoted 'soft version of KVH'. Of course, FJ seemed to like Langhi so he's probably happy with the pick.

Barbosa sounds like he might be a contributor but IMO drafting three perimeter players with our last three picks is pathetic... yeah we drafted Stoudemire last year but that gives Phoenix one good big man drafted in 33 years, and it looks like they won't even bother trying for another for a while...

kinda funny comment from the hoopshype site:

Winner: Phoenix Suns. The scouting report on Leandrinho Barbosa: "terrific ballhandler . . . great athlete . . . suspect shooting mechanics." Sounds like he already has a lot in common with his new teammates.

This IS the Phoenix Suns we're talking about here. Anyone 6-8 or over will get a shot at the 5 with Frankie at the helm.:(

Cabarkapa, who has a 7-1 wingspan, will see time at center, according to Johnson. Versus bigger centers, Cabarkapa will move to power forward with Amaré Stoudemire, last year's Rookie of the Year, playing center.

Can't say I'm shocked.

The only way you'll see that lineup is against the Lakers... unless big Jake wakes up and gets a mean streak this summer.:D

Other quotes....
“With the team that we have, we called it small ball at times. (Assistant coach) Mike D’Antoni said, ‘It’s not small ball, it’s skill ball.’ Now that we have a 7-0 skill guy we don’t necessarily have to go with guys who are 6-7 and under,” Johnson said. “Now we have that 7-0 guy who can go out and do some of those things.”

The above words are in reference to our selection of Zarko with the #17 pick. OK, I'll give it a chance, but like a rose is allways a rose, small ball by any other name is never gonna be a rose. It sounds like the Suns are trying to appease the fans who are sick & tired of small ball. Or maybe, we want to be like Dallas - win a lot of games then exit in the playoffs to the better "skill ball" team with a true C.

The way I see it, big Jake's days are numbered as a Phoenix Sun. Why would you keep a player to play in four games a year? Alright, maybe there are a few other games that a big body might be used by FJ, but as it was demomstrated in the playoff's against the Spurs, he certainally won't get too many chances. We all know the outcome of that experience, so the question is, do we feel lucky? Do we think the combination of Amare & Zarko will be enough to win a series aganinst Duncan & Robinson's replacement? I doubt it. I'm surprised they didn't trade big Jake for Barbosa and be done with it. Perhaps the Spurs don't think big Jake was worth it or perhaps the Suns wanted more than just Barbosa. We'll never know, but I would bet you more money than I bet on the Powerball, that it was discussed. I really believe that Barbosa was the Suns better deal of the day (was that really for Cleveland's pick or was it our 1st round "conditional" pick?). As far as the Spurs go, I would be surprised if they sign Kidd, I believe they'll use their FA money for Robinson's replacement and look to do a repeat on the NBA championship. Kidd will probably stay in NJ, but could end up in Dallas and loosing to either the Lakers or the Spurs in the west.

Now, the rest of the story......
The Suns are looking to be more exciting, and I believe this pick & trade will definately make them a better, more exciting team, but you really don't need to wonder too much about the outcome. JC is a schrewd businessman, and the ultimate goal is to make money, not to win a championship. If perhaps we get lucky, then OK, we were really smart.... but a rose by any other name is still a rose. Close only counts in horseshoes..... Dallas is a good horseshoe team and it looks like the Suns want to join them in their game.

That quote made me wanna puke when I read it. Plus the Suns were playing the Mavs' run and done (in the playoffs, get it?) style before even the Mavs were.
