We need a corner which qualifies as a #1 corner

In other words, somebody opposite of Peterson. Yes, by all means a pass rusher but our defense or rather secondary will only be as good as the guy opposite of Peterson where all the passes will find their way. This is not a position for a rookie... we need a vet, who is out there which we could get and paying money for this would make a lot of sense

Totally agree, we had Antonio Cromartie with him in 2014, both were selected to the ProBowl.

Who? Specifically

I dont like rhetorical discussions to simple answers. We need a pass rusher? Cool, I can name 10 in the draft we have a shot at.

You say we need a bonafide #1 CB to play #2 CB here. Who'd you have in mind?

A pass rush completely cleans up any issues we have in the secondary. Well that's not entirely true but it is mostly true. I still have faith in Bethel improving and HB coming back strong.

Fix the Interior Oline and front seven on D and we will be awesome.

I agree with Jetstream in that we should look for a veteran to play on the other side opposite Peterson. Drafting CB's is so high risk, as they have high bust potential. But, and that's a big but, it won't matter who's playing in that secondary if we don't find a few guys who can get to the QB. Our front 7 needs help badly. Everyone saw what Carolina did to us with a strong front 7 & a very average secondary.

Read what I wrote. I see a need past Powers and Bethel and it needs to be a vet because one sure the hell cannot trust a majority of the passes going at rookie (hence, the draft is not a solution). Unlike some posters, I do not propose to know all the answers with authority and I am asking the forum which vets might be available because it is a concern I see on this team and I respect the knowledge of those here on the board... don't fault me for not presenting an answer or proving anything for a 'he is smart' proverbial ribbon, if I knew I probably would not be asking because I do not think there is a simple answer :)

Bethel will be fine with experience and a better pass rush.

No. We need to start building inside out. The secondary is completely dependent on pass rush. FINALLY address that need and almost anyone will be fine next to PP.

No. We need a pass rusher who can apply pressure to the QB in order to disrupt the entire passing game of the defense.

Seattle and Carolina, both of which have elite defenses, have garbage at CB #2, but the reason they can get away with it is a) they both can get to the QB without blitzing and b) both can drop linebackers into coverage to minimize passing lanes.

Bethel is fine as a CB #2 provided we can get an effective pass rusher.

watching Carolina's D makes me pine for 2013. Man, that D was SO FREAKING LOADED with a younger Campbell, a space-eater in the middle with Williams, Dockett, PP and HB in the secondary, Old Abe off the edge and those two absolute BEASTS in the middle with Dansby/Washington. That D was loaded... lots of talent has been lost from that group either because of age or FA.

If we get a stud free agent to rush the QB and even add a young guy in the draft, I still do not see us fixing the pass rush on a level to win in the playoffs in just one season... I think a strong #2 corner is still smart

This. With no pass rush even a mediocre passer like Josh McClown who was beat up and bruised threw all over us for a half. Same with Foles. Our ability to clamp down in the red zone his this flaw all season until Carolina who's offense proved too powerful even for that.

Or in Washington's case, stupidity.

Fix pass rush and secondary will be better. Look at Panthers...how many teams really exploited their CBs not named Josh Norman? Why? Because of their pass rush.

true. but you add talent to your team every chance you get....adding a more talented corner does not mean you ignore the pass rush....it is an in addition to situation, not an instead of situation.

very talented guy...had a bad run with dallas..... he will come fairly cheap I think....and has connections with the Cards

Regardless of the LSU connections, he's been a bust & major disappointment regardless of his injuries & performance during his stint here in Dallas was less than inspiring.

Now he did play more zone with the Cowpies than he would in AZ, but I'm still not sold he can be more than a nickle CB. I would risk more than a 1 year vet minimum on the dude, which I'm sure he's looking for more.
