Now we draft 10th instead of 6th.......it pays to lose for draft picks.......just ask Tampa Bay.

If they had beaten us last year in the season finale, they probably wouldn't have gotten Carnell Williams.....do you really think the Bucs fans are still upset that they didn't finish the season off with a win last year to help them get closer to a winning record? Heck, we could have drafted the guy ourselves.

Yeah because picking in the top 10 over the years has worked out oh so well for us :sarcasm:

Wanting to lose for a better draft pick is a losers mentality. You keep fighting until there the end of the season. We have an opportunity to finish 2nd in our division for the 1st time in 7 years. Strong finishes attract Free agents.

You don't quit for the hopes of getting a player that might not even work out at the next level.

You have to keep fighting.

What?
Every year someone wants to lose for draft position. By that logic teams in the Super Bowl should throw it just so they don't pick last.

There are two threads that pop up every year that drive me nuts (knuts if you're Norwegien)

1) I hope we lose the rest of the games so we can draft _________
2) Are we switching to the 3-4 defense next year?

winning out is the way of a real player, you really think with dennis green talent spotting abilities a 3rd pick will differ much from a 7th pick? i doubt it

Let's change coaches and draft predictions before game 2 come to mind as well.

I disagree with all of you.....I still say these games are meaningless and a better way to play is to lose and get the better player.

Favre 2nd rounder, Brees 2nd rounder, Tom Brady 6th rounder

Akili Smith 1st rounder, Ryan Leaf 1st rounder, Curtis Enis 1st rounder

Being picked early doesn't mean success at the NFL level

heh, I forgot I had to agree in order to be welcomed.

Seriously though, I'm only starting this thread because I feel that Matt Leinart is the difference maker for our team to become successful.

I say he can be a Carson Palmer clone, and if he needs to do what Palmer did than so be it.

1) He has nowhere near the arm strength or athleticism to be a Palmer clone. He can be a good QB on his own but he won't be the same player as Carson Palmer ... he's more of a Kurt Warner type

2) He's going to New Orleans anyway so this whole thing is pointless

3) I want to win now. We've had "a plan for the future" for 18 years now. How about we actually try winning now for once

alright........good points

So, who should we take if we finish with say the 12th spot?

Somebody to help us run the ball (one of the better OT prospects should be there meaning we can move Ross to OG, maybe a RB but mos of the great prospects will probably be gone at that point) or somebody to help us stop the run (namely a DT that demands a double team such as Ngata or a LB like AJ Hawk just as examples)

We've had 2 problems over the years that we consistently ignore ... running the ball and stopping the run. If we can fix those 2 problems and our ST next year we can easily make it into the playoffs

While a QBOTF would be nice, its not even close to the top of the need list as some make it out to be.

I guess putting someone with Dockett would be good, therefore making Okefor and Berry more effective......if we want to win now, I'm not sure about drafting an OL that early.......

Thats why I prefer we go get Oline help via Free Agency

more experienced OLinemen would be better than drafting which takes longer.......plus we have a very young OLine already.

First off Dockett stinks, he should be used as good depth but the way he has played this year he shouldn't be a starter. Picking at 12 would be fine, LenDale White (I don't think he should be the pick, but a lot of people like him), Jimmy Williams, and Ngata; one of those three should be there.

Give me Deangelo Wiliams all day at #12 if hes there. Relegate Arrington to 3rd down RB and keep Shipp for injuries.

I for one would rather win games and attract a bonafide FA than to lose games and get another crapshoot rookie in the top ten.

With the first pick the Cardinals take Young from Texas.

I think we can attack the O-line in free agency for depth and a starter. We can draft the D-line and look to add to special teams through the FA market and draft. I would like to see us go after one of the star running backs expected to be FA's this off season. If we can pick up an Alexander type we can sell more tickets and run the ball well even behind an average line. I was a JJ fan but he has not yet done anything to show he can be an everydown back. Flashes yes.

Now as for Dockett. IMO he will be a star in this league. He has the determination, raw talent, size and ability to be a top gun. The second year for any player is tough, especially when you lose your next door players, Berry and Davis. He has starter I believe every game since being drafted. He is a tough dude. Give him a chance he will grow on you.

I don't really care if we draft 12 or 3rd. The hiogher the pick the higher the price and not all the time the talent. Q ..Second round is a perfect example of knowing talent and picking them up when they fall. Wilson 3rd round..ERic Green..3rd round(kid played real well as a spot starter (and when Rolle went down). Dansby 2nd round. Anyway it's not where you draft it's who!

I'm with seesred on this one.

Every year we fail to draft a QB for any of a myriad of reasons.....we have to win now.....or.....we'll get a better QB next year....or.....rookie QB's can't make an impact.....or......we have greater need positions.....or.......we'll get one in the later rounds.....or....the current young QB's we have on the roster will develop.

I say BS to all of the excuses.

I want a YOUNG QB....and I want it now....get it a YOUNG QB. :notworthy

PS....a QB who can CUTler thru the defense will also work. :thud:
