He definitely fits the profile of what the Cardinals look for in a corner. Has solid speed and great length. Is physical in press coverage. Definitely fills a need. I feel a little bit better about CB but would like to see another guy brought in.

as an optimist:

his 64 PFF coverage grade is 16 points higher than Marco Wilson's grade last year
Yeah, that's not saying much. Wilson was abombinal in the second half of the season - and looked just as bad this preseason.

Even though this guy is brand new I still hope he plays in front of Marco.

Thinking about it, Mullen is the Raiders version of Byron Murphy.

Shown flashes, never been consistent enough, 4th year etc. Raiders not living in some fever dream where they pretend he's great though.

If anything Mullen has been better than Murphy so if you like Murphy you can't complain.
Dude Byron Murphy would get a ton more in trade value. He’s arguably the third-best player on the defense.

He’s the Raiders version of… like Troy Niklas maybe?

Which Joseph plays little of. He coaches too many soft zones where CBs play 7-10 yards off & bail which allows too many easy completions. You have watched them do this right? Just sayin

A High school QB could complete 60% of his passes against the Big Red

Already checked. He's not terrible.

he's not Deion Sanders but he's pretty good the problem last year he was injured most of the season and when he did play he was playing hurt. Then he missed much of the offseason and camp so the new staff replaced him.

I looked at a Raider fan site and they were all saying you mean the best we're going to get is a 6th rounder for a starting CB.

He's better than what we have but not great

LOLLLLL PFF.

Completion % when targeted:
2020: 55.9%
2021: 62.1%
2022: 62.5%

Passer rating when targeted:
2020: 78.3 (68 targets)
2021: 93.1 (87 targets)
2022: 84.2 (24 targets)

Here's what the FO annual had to say about him:

Mullen was a mainstay of offseason “Raiders 2022 Breakout Candidate” listicles, because someone had to be. Mullen showed some glimmer of promise against early-season opponents who were unwilling (Ravens) or unable (Steelers, Dolphins) to challenge defenses downfield before suffering a toe injury. He returned from injury just to get used as a launchpad by Tyreek Hill in Week 12, then reinjured his toe. Mullen could lose his scholarship if he loses his starting role: fourth cornerback Darius Phillips projects as a core special teamer and possible punt returner, and former Eagles bottom-of-the-roster survivor Cre’Von LeBlanc is the defensive back best suited to replace Hobbs if needed.

I don't think he is third best, Budda, Thompson, and Watt should be the 3 best - and Simmons really should be 4th, but yeah maybe 5th.

But Byron Murphy is not much more than an average corner, Mullens really has performed at near his level.

Yes, that means our Defensive talent is really bad, that we only have 4 or 5 players better than average.

LOL no. Fans have this weird perception of Byron Murphy that is WAY beyond his actual production.

Yeah sorry. Murphy’s stats — especially playing primarily out of the slot where teams are much more efficient — are more impressive to me.

Murphy wouldn’t get a second-round pick back today if you tried to trade him, but you’d get more than the pile of used practice jerseys we gave up for Mullins.

I’d put him even with Thompson after Baker and a healthy Watt. No worse than fourth-best.

Maybe once the season is over Simmons passes him—I hope so—but not today.
