I got into an argument with a friend of mine about OJ last week about how he should be in the HOF.My friend is a Browns fan and i argued that OJ was a better RB than Leroy Kelly, who is unbelievably in the HOF, and the stats back me up.LK only played about 7 years and OJ beat him decisively in every meaningful statistical category except TD receptions.Kelly was a little before my time,so if anyone who saw both of them play could they let me know their opinion on who was the better RB.But you look at the guys getting into the Hall these days it's unbelievable that OJ doesn't even make the final cut. I mean guys like JOe Dellamilure(sp.) and Jack Youngblood were nice players but Hall of Famers? Youngblood's main claim to fame is playing with a broken leg in the playoffs.I go on an OJ in the hall rant every so often. So I should be good for a few more months now.
OJ had something happen to him in St. Louis that caused a lot of problems that weren't made public IMO.
First of all Franco Harris talked him into running out of bounds to save himself.
Then he got traded to the Giants and just sat on the bench until he popped up as a Super Bowl MVP.
I met him once in St. Louis and talked for about 5 to 10 minutes and he was as nice as he could be until I mentioned I was very sorry he got traded to the Giants and then he just clamed up and basically walked away. It was very weird.
That's why I think something was very very bad about that trade for him at least but who knows.
I think he was much better than anyone gave him credit for but the HOF would be a stretch. He still would have a case though with one Super Bowl MVP and the other stats he had I think he could have gone for a better team.
