Lost in Kurt Warner's comments about Leinart is this little tidbit:

The feeling around the community is simply that they were looking for someone to step in and do exactly what I did or our team did the last three years.

Everyone simply assumes that Whis wants to turn to a smashmouth style of offense, but has he ever been a big fan of that? From what I recall when he was with Pittsburgh, he loved letting Big Ben air it out, and used to get some heat on local radio for throwing it too much. I think we've all labored under the false assumption that Whis WANTED to run smashmouth football. I'm starting to believe that he prefers to run what we've been running with KW over the last few seasons.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Leinart won't start and why Anderson will. Argue with his accuracy all you want, but Anderson is by far better suited to gun the ball in that offense than Leinart is.

I said it in another thread and I'll say it again.

That is fine with me. Better start some tackling drills for the offense though as they will be required to make quite a few tackles with our new QB. :D

Its why he is known for trick plays, mortar kicks, onside kicks, and on and on and on. He is willing to live with the bad as long as points go up on the board. Its why he lived with double digit fumbles every year with Warner, he was still putting points on the board. Wiz is a strategic live by the sword die by the sword type of guy I think.

Yes he did, and that Steelers team was REALLY fun to watch.

This could very well be true, but it doesn't explain why we're stuck with a guy who has trouble hitting open receivers five yards in front of him. No matter how you slice it, having DA as the only QB on the roster with NFL experience is a poor move.

I like this post - Kudos to Stout! Living in PA, I watched quite a bit of Steeler football when Whiz was their OC. You're absolutely right about his preference to throwing the ball down the field. Back when we signed Anderson, the thought did cross my mind that this was exactly the type of QB that Whiz likes.

As Jaws say alot "Points come in the passing game". Look at most of the playoff teams from recent years, throw the rock & run when needed or to keep them honest. The rules dictate a successful passing teams win...now do we have that crucial piece to the puzzle, the QB?

McNabb knows how to throw the deep ball, he would be looking a HELL of a lot better than freaking Anderson.

Russ Grimm's lack of offensive line development has completely destroyed any chance of going smashmouth on the rest of the NFL.

Anderson has a strong arm, that doesn't mean he's anywhere close to capable of airing it out like Warner. He posted four games in his career over 300 passing yards. Warner posted five in a row in 2008.

I will argue his accuracy, too. Sub-50% since 2008 is an insult to the position.

Same offense as the past hahahahahahahah laughable, did we sign a QB that is capable of that and no one has seen him yet? Is Leinart and Whiz sandbagging and this is all a big fake out? I know you can't honestly think DA can even resemble Warner? God what the hell is Whiz thinking please tell me this is all a giant misunderstanding and we are not really going to pin our season on Derek FREAKING Anderson!!!

I think we will run the same offense we had back when Whis was running the two quaterback system, when Kurt would come in and run the hurry up offense. Now he will let DA move the team down the field and Matt will come in with the dink passes to score the touchdowns.

Nashman, try to actually read what I wrote. Whis sees Anderson as the best guy to run that offense...NOT be Kurt and NOT to run it as well. Relax.

In all this talk about DA and his propensity for turnovers no one has talked about what the defense will need to do in order to keep points off the board when DA tosses those untimely Interceptions.

Me thinks Feely will be a good choice in fantasy because DA is not a good Red Zone QB. Are you ready for some FGs?
