We tried the angle on the centre NT formation back in the Green days, and it simply did not work. Others may see Cody in that role, but for the Cards, he'd be a straight up NT in a 3-4.

I'm talking about Dan Williams if he was drafted by the Giants.

John Henderson, Albert Haynesworth, Pat Williams, and Shaun Rogers all play/ed the NT position in a 4-3 alignment and were very effective. It's more about gap responsibility and where you line up against the OL.

For all the people ( I am looking at you Shane ) who think there is NO chance that McClain or Weatherspoon is available, I would recommend you go back and look at the past 15 drafts and where ILB are taken. Everyone from Ray Lewis, to John Vilma, to Rey Maluagua, all slip slip slip. The only two ILB's I can think of taken very highly are Dan Morgan and Patrick Willis. And Weatherspoon is LIGHT YEARS away from being the prospect those two were.

I think McClain goes to the GMen and Weatherspoon the Atlanta personally, but I think its crazy to say there is no chance they fall. NFL teams just don't value ILB's as 1st round material much of the time and feel they can find value after the first. Hell look at our two ILB's from last year.

I know we want to get maximum value at the ILB position, but we have to remember if one isn't on the board at 26 that warrants the pick there, then the best thing we can do to maximize production out of a ILB is to take a dominate NT (or one we think is going to be dominate, essentially).

The thing about Weatherspoon though is that he isn't strictly an ILB. He is a great fit as a 4-3 OLB as well. I don't see the Giants taking him as most do, because I don't think he fits as an ILB in a 4-3 (JMO). As I have mentioned before. I am more confused every day as to who we will pick.

The reason I did this mock was to see if there was a realistic way Weatherspoon could fall to us. I don't think any of my picks are way out of whack and I think there is a possiblity it could play out this way. There is a good chance Weatherspoon goes to the Falcons but if a DE like Brandon Graham is still on the board they could easily take him due to positional value.

http://drafthistory.com/positions/lb.html

A.J Hawk - 5th overall (2006)
Ernie Sims - 9th overall (2006)
Aaron Curry - 4th overall (2009)
Keith Rivers - 9th overall (2008)
Jerod Mayo - 10th overall (2008)

I hear what you're saying, and you may be right, but it certainly hasn't been a hard and fast rule. More LBs get taken when there are fewer pass rushers available. In 2006, only 3 DEs were taken in the first round, and only 2 after Mario Williams. In 2008, only 4 were taken in the first round, and 3 were top 10 selections.

If you're hoping for McClain and/or Weatherspoon to drop, you better hope that some teams fall in love with guys like Griffen, Dunlap, Graham, and Hughes.

I don't think Weatherspoon will slide because isn't strictly an inside guy.

It seems like many fans have the Cardinals drafting a DT or a linebacker. Am I the only one that worries alot about CB. I'm sure the Cardinals will draft one but is there no one worthy in the first round that might be there. What if Kyle Wilson were still on the board at #26?

ILB, NT and Corner are certainly my priorities, and how they come off the board is a "left to be seen". I would rate Weatherspoon, if available, over Wilson at that spot, but, if "W" was off the board, sure. However, I saw no board in the last week or so, that shows Wilson still there at #26.

I think the team will address CB at some point, but after Haden and Wilson I think the next 5-6 CBs are fairly similar depending on what you are looking for in a CB.

McCourty
Jackson
Robinson
Ghee
Cox (though he is a head case)
Cook
and maybe even AOA from Indiana (PA).

A few of these may be available in the 2nd, but I think all would be a reach at 26 (including McCourty).

I don't think Weatherspoon going 26 is that much of a fall. He's not in Mayock's top 20, nfldraftscout has him at 25 and I think the Huddle report has him at 24. I don't think it's that proposterous to think he will be there for us.

Seattle runs a 4-3.

:bang: Yes, Binkar, thank you for telling me that. Anyone who reads my posts would assume that I don't know anything about the rest of the NFL. In a 3-4 defense players that would usually play outside in a 4-3 defense play the inside linebacker position, and guys who play the outside linebacker position are undersized defensive ends.

The exception tends to be Tampa-2 LBs, who are much smaller than those used in even traditional 4-3 defenses (around 225 lbs.), who would maybe play safety in more traditional defenses, but more likely wouldn't be drafted or be drafted only for special teams.

I am confused as to if this is sarcasm or not?
