Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander said earlier this week that he Brandon Webb still believes a mid-August return is possible, which would allow him to make about six starts before the end of the season, a goal he set earlier this summer.

Is that realistic? Webb threw a bullpen session Wednesday, but manager Kirk Gibson said there still was no timetable for Webb's return.

Conceivably, for Webb to make six starts before the end of the season, he could return as late as Sept. 1 if the D-backs stick to a five-man rotation.

I say NO WAY! Webb has done nothing for this team to the tune of $20 million over the last 2 seasons and is a major reason for the teams demise. Why should the Dbacks let him come back for a few starts so he can showcase himself for a new contract with some other team. Just let him sit then sianara. Its time for everybody to move on and I find it hard to imagine Webb being part of the teams future at this point.

Yeah, his injury was his fault. As we all the losses due to craptastic managers and an almost worse General Manager.

Not.

Wow... harsh words for a guy who simply suffered a major injury. "eff himself"?? What the heck did he do to deserve that type of comment? :mulli:

If he had torn his rotator cuff I would agree and would subsequently allow him all the time in the world to get back. Unfortunately the procedure amounted to arthroscopic surgery and his motivation to return has been questioned by the team as well as medical staff. Combine this with his overall lack of physical conditioning and it becomes a sore spot for some fans (obviously not all).

I appreciate everything that he's done for the organization and really enjoyed watching him pitch, but his "recovery" has left a bad taste in my mouth. Time to move on...

I say let him showcase himself, cause either some other team is going to get him for a steal or some other team is going to over pay him.

Let it be the later.

If I'm ARZ I still offer him arbitration. He will not win a huge raise and will more than likely sign somewhere else, might as well reap the 2 draft picks, instead of letting a team get him for nothing.

D-Backs aren't going to get any picks for Webb. The rankings are based of your last two years. Since Webb has thrown in only one game in that time he will be way down the list. Offering him arbitration will do nothing for the D-Backs.

Player News (last updated: July 29, 2010)
News: Webb (shoulder) pulled the plug on his scheduled bullpen session Wednesday, the Arizona Republic reports.
Spin: He wasn't able to get loose, which is somewhat discouraging since that's typically easier to do on a hot, muggy day. Webb will try to throw his next bullpen session on Thursday or Friday, while he indicated that he'll return as a reliever if he's unable to get back in time to be a starter at the end of the season.

He owes the D-Backs a minimum salary next year if he can pitch. He made $15 million the last two years and will have thrown 4 innings.

Webb is a joke.

He should have had surgery to fix that nose of his since he rode the pine for 2 years. I hope the Dbacks dont help facilitate his signing elswhere by allowing him to pitch this year. If he agrees to sign a incentive filled contract based on innings pitched then I will look at him in a better light. I bet he signs with the Reds though.

Maybe we can pick him up around the deadline next year? Dont the Reds have a firesale every season?
