Fells was the #6 TE in NFL Fantasy Football this week. Wonder when the last time was that a Card's TE broke the top 15. :)
As a tribute to Duckjake:

Fells had the highest receiving yards total for a Cardinals tight end since 1989. Who was the tight end that holds the record for receiving yards in a game for a Cardinals tight end, since the team moved to Arizona?

Special teams deserves a Goat for the "12 men on the field" penalty on the punt return. That basically allowed Brees to throw his only TD of the game.

However did Butler really do that bad? His first punt that wasn't that great at only 30 yards. However the rest of his punts were very good and had great hang time. The one at the end of the 4th pinned the Saints at the 3 yard line.
Is it still only penalized if there are 12 at the snap? Because I paused it when the first guy ran off (Rashad I believe?) and counted 11 including Tyrann, but than TM started running off and didn't get out of bounds before the snap. Not sure if it should have been penalized, but the refs probably assumed 12 men when they saw TM desperately trying to get off the field.

I thought Cooper and Veldheer played the best on our line. Cooper was very solid. Watford was beat four times pretty bad. Sendlein was worse than normal being pushed back and tossed aside. Larson was ok. For a first game though I thought Watford showed a lot of potential that he can be a good RT. He is a better guard but he has shown he can play both positions well. I'm looking forward to having both Iupati and Massie back in a couple weeks. Once they are back we will only have one week spot on the line.

This. I paused and re-counted multiple times. The Cardinals did NOT have 12 men on the field at the snap. The penalty, which enabled the Saints to continue their drive and ultimately score 7, was bogus.

Was the return guy in the frame when you counted?

Is that a in-game re-viewable penalty?

Good read as always K9. Not sure I'd put Bettcher on the Goats list but you're not wrong that things got sloppy at times.

Cards are currently dead last in pass defense (yds allowed per game). Good news is we are first in rush yards allowed and yds per carry.

Against Brees, one of the best. Our secondary is pretty good. Need consistent pressure up front a bigger issue again.

D'oh! I was pretty sure i had accounted for that. The Cardinals kept their regular D on the field, with Peterson and Powers running back toward the punted ball, but making no effort to play it. In the original view from behind the punter, you can see Peterson at the back of the Cardinals' D formation.

What you can't tell from that angle is how far behind the rest of the defenders Peterson is. In the view from above, where the announcer counts 12 players before Rashad Johnson runs off, leaving 11 before Matthieu tries to run off... Peterson is barely out of the frame.

Good catch - I stand corrected!

I saw 2 that hit a d-lineman and could've easily been intercepted. Not sure what others you're referring to.
Otherwise, I thought Carson played an incredibly efficient and smart game.

I agree. Writer is exaggerating.

2:01 in the 1st — Palmer throws it directly to Brandon Browner when he's aiming for Fitz on the slant.
0:14 in the 2nd — Palmer throws it into double-coverage to Nelson in the end zone (this isn't a huge deal since it would've been a punt).
0:11 in the 3rd — Palmer throws a dart over the middle on 3rd and 4 to Fells or Gresham and hits Stephone Anthony in the hands.

Those are the passes that were total head-scratches from a ball-placement POV. A couple more were borderline, but of the "weird bounce" variety.

OT: On the long Darren Fells reception, Jermaine Gresham ended up blocking two guys WAY downfield — absolutely leveled both of them.

Also OT: Deone Bucannon did not have a great day yesterday.

Also also OT: The Cards rotated in a ton of defensive players. Early in the 4th quarter Kareem Martin and Ed Stinson were on the field. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that almost all the defensive players who were active got snaps with the defense.

Also also also OT: That David Johnson reception was NOT a screen. It was just a little out route off of Jet Sweep action. DJ doesn't have anyone running with him when he catches the ball.

2nd throw by CP wasn't in the breadbasket. You said he had 3-4 in the breadbasket. And he was wildly lucky...and not in the strike zone for 2 qtrs.

I know you really like this writing thing. But at least be genuine.

This was discussed by the commentators during the game. When they had the graphics up counting the players, one of them mentioned not to forget the return guy who wasn't in the frame.

In fact, the one announcer originally counted 12 (when there was 13) and first guy hand't run off yet. He forgot the return man.

My guess.

Rob Awalt.
:raccoon::raccoon: Guernsey!

The interesting thing is that Jay Novacek was on the roster, but was 2nd team; Awalt was the starter. The next year (1990) both of them were playing in Dallas but with roles reversed.

Looking at Novacek's career chart - there would have been posters in this forum calling him "the Ghost" and a bust. . .
