Stefanski was a positional coach 10 years prior to his stint as an OC, two of those as a QB coach and interim OC. Vikings were the 10th best scoring offense with Case Keenum as the QB when Stefanski was the QB coach.

Steichen 3 years a QB coach and interim OC. While he was QB coach, Rivers went to three pro bowls.

Kevin O'Connell was not retained by Ron Rivera after Gruden got fired. Also, Gruden called the plays in Washington. He was then hired by LA where McVay he worked with an offensive HC in McVay.

Petzing has done nothing compared to this. The better question is why are you excited about Petzing as an OC?

Was it his on year as a QB coach in Cleveland where the Browns were 18th in points scored and 22nd in passing yards?

Is it because the Cleveland Browns were 7-10?

Maybe because the Stefanski coaching tree has produced...zero OCs hired by other teams since he has been hired other than Petzing.

You tell me why you are excited other than he isn't Kliff Kingsbury.

Who said I was excited? But I completely disagree with your assessment of Petzing vs those 3.

Stefanski from 2009 was assistant QB coach for 4 years, TE coach for 2 years, RB coach for a year, QB coach for 2 years (of which he was interim OC for 3 games) then hired as OC in 2019 as he was about to turn 38.

Petzing was Assistant WR's for 2 years from 2016. Assistant QB for a season. WR coach for a year. TE coach for 2 years. QB coach for a year and then OC just before he turned 36.

Stefanski had 2 more years as a position coach which were really 2 years he wasted being an assistant QB coach for the first 4 years of his career. He had an extra year as a QB coach and 3 games as interim OC. That's all he has over Petzing.

The Steichen stuff you wrote is nonsense. Outside QC coach he had 3 years as QB coach with Philips Rivers. Rivers had 8 career Pro Bowls and 5 All pro's and 3 top 4 finishes for OPOTY. He's a Hall of Fame QB so hardly shocking he would be good under any half competent QB coach.

O'Connell was a 1 year QB coach at the Browns with a 3-13 record and sucky Manziel and McCown. Two year as Redskins QB coach with Cousins where they went 7-9 and 7-9. A single year as the Skins OC in 2019 where they went 3-13. And then 2 years with McVay where he didn't call plays.

Petzing has a better CV than both Steichen and O'Connell before they became OC's. And not far off Stefanski.

But my main point is, none of us has the first clue about Petzing or what he might (or might not) do. He could be the next Sean McVay or he could be the next Scott Turner.

But going off his CV there's no reason to doubt him when compared to others. He's put in the work. He's more experienced than many before they get their shot.

I remember reading stuff like this when NE hired a failed Cleveland coach to be their HC. I still get laughs about it.

More TE help incoming.
Looks like he was a full-time starter in Tennessee the last 2 seasons, but primarily the blocking TE...43 catches the last 2 seasons. Maybe he'll be TE2, with McBride TE1 and catching passes, until Ertz is fully healthy. He plays about 50% of the ST snaps, too, so he has additional value.

Gotta think the signing of OC Pat Elflein is added competition to the incumbent Hjalte Froholdt.Elfein was solid last year with Carolina, posting a 64.4 pass blocking grade.
