Sources: Virginia Tech is targeting Arizona Cardinals LB coach Sam Siefkes as the school’s new defensive coordinator. Siefkes is an integral part of the Cardinals' innovative NFL scheme, and he brings collegiate defensive coordinator experience, including a stint at Wofford.

Changes coming to the Arizona Cardinals defensive staff. The Cards parted ways with DL coach Derrick LeBlanc, per
@AaronWilson_NFL
. LB coach Sam Siefkes took the Va Tech DC job. The Cards offensive staff remains intact.
:eyes:

I don't actually think that position coaches matter much, but this is an interesting thing.

Hopefully the next D-Line coach can help elevate the play of Jones and/or Nichols.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Dave Borgonzi, the Bears' linebacker coach, now that they have gotten a new head coach. Gannon have worked with him for many years, and he was a finalist for the DC job before Rallis got it. Of course, he could go with Eberflus to the Cowboys.

Could also be that they move Rob Rodriguez from outside linebacker-coach to his more natural defensive line-coach position. That would create room for Gannon's best friend, Brandon Staley, to get back to his previous job as outside linebacker-coach (reports say that he is probably out as a Niners-coach).

Two coaches gone and my biggest offseason surprise is that neither worked with WRs. That group exhibited poor fundamentals, such as coming back to a QB who was scrambling. They also didn’t match going cross field to parallel a QB on the move. They showed a lack of technique in gaining separation. Finally there seemed to be a lack of awareness of the line to gain. None of these are stunning faults in young receivers, but the absence of any improvement as the season progressed is concerning.
