Yeah the biggest disappointment for me was the lack of protection, Kyler running for his life two weeks in a row now. It doesn't look like there's an easy answer either.
And we were only missing one starter - albeit his backup too. But that means 4/5 starters were playing. More than GBs line.

I missed the first quarter and, intentionally, stayed away from this sight so I could more enjoy the game:rolleyes:. I thought a big problem was poor tackling. They were constantly getting several yards after first contact. That killed us, I thought. I thought our special teams made a couple of bad plays. Really hurt us.
As bad as our D looked at times, what killed us were our turn overs giving them very short fields for them to have to go.

I missed the injury(?) to Collins. What happened? Is it severe? I really hope not.
Landed hard on his shoulder

Will J. Murray start over Jones when Murray comes off on IR? I think probably so Ouchie.

But your point that both teams were not a full strength is still valid. The injuries were no excuse to lose.

This game was about fractions.

A fraction of Rondale's finger.
A fraction of A. Jones's backside.
A fraction of Murphy's shoulder on one of the Cobb TD's.
A fraction of Douglas's hand on that last INT.

We win if JJ is in there. Heck..... I think we win if Zaven is in there. We needed two thumpers against Dillon.

That may be about as bad as we can play and we still should have won. By Q4 the Packers defense was TOAST. And both sides can quibble over missed opportunities IMO.

Lot's to unpack, but four things are for real:
1. We are really good.
2. Losses like this can strengthen us for the postseason.
3. Keim now sees exactly what he needs to do.
4. Injuries really expose how small the window between winning and losing can really be.

Agree Doctor that the bounces, most of them, finally did not go our way, but we still almost won it. Dammit. Also, to your list:

1. Offensively yes. Defensively - vs. the pass, yes. Vs. the run? Can't say yes, and come playoff time, it might cost us. Let's see what happens when we get Peters and Lawrence back though.

2. Disagree. AJ unequivocally let his teammates down. Everything else up to that point was wasted by his failure, so I don't think you can say this loss helps us (overall at least).

3. I vote for spending some capital to get more help on the D-line, yes.

4. Agree. The line between winning and losing is razor thin in the NFL. Which is what makes it so cool, IMHO.

As I write this message, we still have hope for a championship. Still a lot of football to be played.

Chandler Jones was a disappointment. Just 1 tackle and most of the time was a liability in run defense
I would just argue that Jones is not a good run defender so that is who he is and who he has been. also, if you are going to play off-coverage vs a vet QB, your pass rush will struggle.

This is why I can't criticize the run D. Considering Philips had to play 68% of snaps and Allen 78% because we had 3 guys out is tough. Especially when you consider they were on the field so much and had to defend 73 snaps. Under the circumstances they did well. Made plays and held up mostly when they needed to.

Also Antoine Wesley is not good enough to be on any 53. Total Kliff vanity pick.

Both he and Streveler need dumping to the PS and put guys in that can actually contribute on Sunday. Dead weight.

This is why I can.

Zaven Collins, 3 snaps. He has an absolute nose for the ball, especially on running downs. Yet, you don't play him.

I agree with those who state that tackling was the biggest issue on defense. Too many yards after contact. Some of it is personnel. 240lb Isaiah Simmons is going to struggle to bring down 235lb RBs. Also Zach Allen struggles to get off blocks which is something Watt is really good at. I do think our run defense is helped if we had Lawrence and Peters to rotate in, at least one of them. Same if Collins was able to play more snaps.

He got injured last night. Vance was planning on using him as you can tell by Vallejo's snap count.

I see Chopper replied.

Underrated blow that. Obviously he's a big part of stopping the run. Game planned around that all week then lost him early.

He can’t be worse than jones has been.
