I only watched about 10 minutes of the game but it was so obvious when Ayton was in as opposed to when Chandler was in how Dallas accounted for them. It's like night and day because the defense is so worried about Ayton.

I only saw parts of the 3rd quarter, the blurb I read online said he had a tough first quarter defensively because DeAndre Jordan had some buckets on him but I didn't see any of that. I did see 2-3 times where guys just drove right at Ayton and laid it in, one was Doncic where he didn't even hesitate in transition went right at him and scored easily, Ayton has to get better at challenging that stuff, but in the halfcourt several times Doncic beat his man and settled for a missed floater because Ayton rotated over and made him pull up.

The passing is exactly what we saw in college, teams threw doubles at him and he just picked them apart, he didn't just take the easy pass he'd take the pass that was going to produce a wide open look. He's going to be a monster, there's still such obvious things he can get better at like going right shoulder and using the left hand, right now he just goes up with 2 hands which makes sense he's always been the biggest guy so nobody could block that. I've seen him use his left hand he's pretty adept at it, he's just never really had to before.

Definitely looks like a future all star and future doesnt' look that far off.

There was one play we lobbed the ball down into him and Dallas collapsed their D around him. He scored on FOUR guys in the paint on that play!!! 1 on 4 and they couldn't stop him!!

Yes, Ayton does have to get better at challenging driving players, but I didn't see a defensive lapse, as much as I saw a rookie trying to avoid fouling. This says two things to me: The bad is that it could make him too tentative to take chances, but the good is that the kid already knows how things work. I landed on the glass is half full side of things, and was very impressed that he knew to do it in the first place. Jackson would have tackled guys, fouls be damned. :)

Amare was awesome but this kid has the chance to be one of the all time greats. If Nash was playing last night he would have had 40.

6 Assists !!

How many players have 18/10/6 in their first NBA game....I'll bet not many

man ayton was fun to watch he plays well with booker. Also when he gets doubleteamed it opens up Jackson, Warren, Ariza, booker for 3.

I like luka but ayton is the much better player for the suns.

and the suns can find a future pg via trade, draft, fa

Only one other player did that in their NBA debut. His name is Oscar Robertson.

I haven’t been this excited for Suns basketball in a long time. In about a month he goes against Embiid, let’s hope Joel can stay in one piece so we can see this matchup.

Next target is Jokic, different type of center but it will be an exciting matchup

The assists weren't really that impressive, almost all of them were from handoffs on screens.

The praise for the assists should be going to Igor for his system working really well.

I am a huge Jokic fan, but the Suns better feed Ayton all night long. Jokic is smart and skilled, but Ayton can easily drop 40 points on him.

But that's what I like about Ayton- he makes simple plays. I don't want his doing the behind the back or through the legs passes. Make a simple pass. That's exactly what he needs to do.

That jumper for a rookie is Karl Malone-esque! Such a soft jumper for a rookie center! They do not utilize that enough from Ayton.

I expect we'll see him carry more of a scoring load as the season goes on. It's not that he can't handle it, it's how to get him involved within the flow of the offense. It's hard to believe he's so young. I saw Ryan Anderson talk him up since he's played with Dwight Howard and Anthony Davis when they were young and he said the difference with Ayton is he is so fundamentally sound at such a young age that his ceiling is higher than either of them. That was encouraging and he does have a unique perspective. Ayton is a much more complete player right now than Davis or Howard when they entered the league, he's more advanced on the offensive end than Dwight ever got. If he can put everything together he really can be an all time great.
