Right now Simmons gets numbers, but Im still not sure about the quality yet. I still see him have poor eyes and recognition . EVen PFF has him at just 52 overall.

Collins thumps guys his rookie year. I didnt see that enough from Simmons his rookie year. I think potentially he'll always be a really physical linebacker who who is athletic enough to make plays when the ball is in the air.

Dont get me wrong I like Simmons as well. Just believe Collins has a higher upside.

That is what happens when you sit on the bench for a year. Same is going to happen to Collins. You can't get better without reps. Reps in practice and reps in the game. Collins isn't getting those so when he is asked to perform in the game it is still an adjustment. Vance doing Vance things.

From your knowledge, would you cite that VJ has one of the more complex defenses in the bulk of shifting formations he deploys through out a game... just thinking maybe that's the reason for this unusual learning curve if wearing the green dot falls on him

Vance asks his LBs to do a lot. Per Ware and Miller in Denver, that was the biggest difference between Wade Phillips and Vance. Wade kept it simple and let his players play fast. Vance if/then's his players so that they are slow because they are trying to cover everything.

This is why Hicks has a place on our D, in any other D he is to slow and to weak for run or pass protection or coverage. But since he knows what he sees and has to do, he normally ends up near the right place.

VJ's D isn't great. It's a bend don't break D that havyly relays on ILB/OLB to make the right decissions. Therefor guys that are smarter or get things faster, get better results. It is a great D? Maybe, jury is still out. Does it make Rookies slow and not playable most of the time. And that was one of the problems of VJ in Denver.


I would like to see a young upcoming modernizer on D and see what he can do with our talent on the Defensive side of the ball.

I really hated to see him getting shoved away by Newton for the first TD, that is a play that he should certainly be able to make with his physical abilities. On the other hand that might have something to do with his lingering shoulder problem.

He was trying to attack him running horizontally to the goal line while Cam had forward momentum. That TD would have happened to ANY NFL player in the league, ever.

It is also why they shouldn't draft LB's high in Round 1 if they can't play right away. You need R1 pick to be a starter and contribute. (and I am a big fan of Simmons and a fan of Collins too)

I didn’t like the pick but not ready to bury him. He’s been playing behind Hicks who has played well and has the respect of the team and staff.

It would be worse to play Collins just to play him when Hicks is better.

I think coming from a smaller college program (Tulsa) is a factor with Collins while the guy I wanted and would have traded up to get Parsons is doing quite well in Dallas.

Which would’ve have cost us Moore or Wilson lol. No thank you.
