If it wasnt clear before this, GMs now know they can bend us over. This is a horrible, horrible trade. I dont see how this can possibly be explained. Its not going to be enough to get us into the playoffs this year and its not a move made for the future. How can you justify trading a 24 year old pitcher who hasnt come close to hitting his peak for a 28 year old thrid baseman that is probably already there, and on top of that has most likely had his best part of the year already. What do we now do about Chad Tracy and Brian Barden, both having very good years in AAA and AA? If you want to trade the future for someone that will help right now at least make sure that person will help right now. Shea will not be enough to get us over the top. I will continue to watch the Dbacks and root for them, but i hope Kim and Durazo have great years and careers so that we can get a GM that knows what hes doing. You can only point out the Gonzo trade so often before reality sets in and you realize that that is the only good trade we have made.

I couldn't agree with you more. Joe Jr is a joke for a general manager. Hillenbrand is not the answer for this pathetic hitting team. There is no way Hillenbrand is of equal talent to BK. And like you said, what do we do with Tracy and Barden now? Heck, Hillenbrand doesn't even start at third base for the Sox, Mueller does. I love the Diamondbacks, and follow them and their minor league system everyday, but I have to say I'm very disappointed. The only reason they made this trade is because they save 3 million dollars. If management thinks Hillenbrand is going to put them over the top, they need a quick lobotomy.

PATHETIC!

PATHETIC!
Should D'backs be "out of it" before the trading deadline (end of July, I think), expect more regulars to be moved for monetary reasons, as the contenders jockey to fill in a missing puzzle piece.

Finley will be a likely target... and Schilling's name is certain to come up... if not then, then during the offseason.

I love this quote from Kevin Wheeler of the sporting news.

"Last week I mentioned the success that D-Backs third base prospect Chad Tracy was having at Tucson (.347-4-28) and wondered (to myself) why Matt Williams is still playing regularly. Now I'm wondering why Arizona would trade a pretty good 24-year-old pitcher (Byung-Hyun Kim) to Boston for Shea Hillenbrand - that rumor was red hot when I wrote this. A 24-year-old pitcher with a 3.65 ERA as a starter this season and a track record of being a solid closer for a soon-to-be 28-year-old corner infielder who has never hit more than 18 homers nor driven in more than 83 runs? Why not keep Kim and promote Tracy"?

Good question Kevin. Why don't you ask our jackass GM?

One of my friends is a Boston fan, and she's furious.

If the fans of both teams hate it, must mean it's a balanced trade. ;)

I really dont see how anyone is overrating Kim. Most believe Kim will be a solid #3 starter with an ERA around 3.50, something this team has been desperately looking for. I dont believe that is worth an almost 28 YO infielder who is a below average defender with an OPS in the high .700's. We trade offense for pitching with Durazo for Dessens then Pitching for offense with Kim for HIllenbrand, both will be viewed as bad trades in the future.
