All the talk in NE is that he is on his way out and the pats might look to get some value before cutting ties. Would you trade a 2nd round pick for Wes? That is what the value is according to the local media. I think since we can't improve our QB why not improve his options this could take the offense to another level and really take pressure off of Fitz.

Not sure about a second rounder. But he would be a big upgrade for us imo.

Absolutely not. He's tagged. His salary this year is huge and he's not gonna be around after...

I don't think Welker is anywhere near a top-5 receiver. Talent-wise he is closer to Andre Roberts than a top-5 receiver like Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitz, or Andre Johnson. He is being overvalued because of the huge numbers he put up with Tom Brady.

Buyer beware, sure sounds like a system player that put up huge numbers playing for an offensive juggernaut. Much like Shawn Marion put up huge numbers with Suns offense, then scored much less at other stops in his career.

I actually think Roberts and Doucet will be adequate this year. Both have looked pretty good in the first two games. Let another team send their second round pick for the 30+ year old receiver with previous major knee surgeries.

Was welker a system guy when he caught over 100 balls in Miami with whatever scrub qb they had? Anyone here who thinks Andre freaking Roberts can hold welkers Jock needs some help.

PS one surgery came back months before the scheduled timetable and had a career year after the surgery. Cmon man!

Welker is a top five WR in the Patriot system, a number 3 WR on any other team's system in my opinion and I would not go after him at all. I wonder what a WR like Roberts or a guy like Breaston could do in Welker's role in New England...I know, they would tear it up. I wonder what someone like Julio Jones could do placed in Welker's role with the Pats, he would be argued as the top WR in the league :)

No offense to Andre Roberts but he wouldn't start on many other teams, we aren't loaded. Wes Weller is a top 5 WR no comparison

ill pass. Our 2nd 3 are good ebnough to not throw away draft picks and we just dropped a #1 on a WR. We need quality OL play and QB play, the WR situation is fine.

I don't think we're "loaded" at WR, but we have much bigger problems than WR. We need to invest in the QB and OL positions, not the WR position.

Hell, we just spent a 1st rounder on the position. Welker's great, but I don't think he makes Kolb or Skelton that much better.

I agree its not the biggest problem but we aren't signing a QB this offseason we will draft one. The oline will hopefully get better if Levi was healthy I think we would have 4 spots taken care of. Fitz at some point will get upset he can't get the ball because he is the only offensive threat. He will be double and triple teamed every week.

rule #1: Be wary of trading with Andy Reid for a QB
rule #2: Be wary of acquiring Patriot WRs

Didn't we just draft a #2 WR? How about we stop wasting picks (via draft or trade) on shiny toys until we get the line fixed.

We got plenty of receivers. Welker would put our #1 draft pick on the inactive list. How long is it going to take him to learn our system? You suggest giving away ANOTHER #2 draft pick. Let's see, some recent #2 draft picks for us: Campbell, Washington. Yeah we've had a couple maybe's and Cody Brown was a bust, but I'm not giving up our future for a half year receiver.

You might want to double check your facts on that one. Hint, he didn't even catch over 100 balls in three season with Miami.

No need to spend another draft pick on a WR who will be looking for one last large contract at the age of 32. Pick and money best to be used somewhere else IMO.

Just like buyer beware when Andy Reid lets go of a QB, the same goes for Bill Belichick getting rid of WR's.

Caught 96 balls TOTAL in three seasons in MIA. 112 first season in NE

Andre Roberts would start on a whole bunch of teams in the NFL:

San Diego, Oakland, Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota, New York Jets, Miami, Buffalo, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Seattle, St. Louis, Tennessee, Indy, Jacksonville, and Carolina. That's half the league.

And you could make an argument that he'd start for the Pats, Giants, Texans, Saints, and Bucs, too. That's nearly three-quarters of the NFL.

Don't confuse poor talent in the player with poor talent from the guy(s) delivering him the ball.

Wes Welker isn't better than Fitz, Megatron, Andre Johnson When Healthy, A.J. Green, or Julio Jones. If Welker were a Top 5 receiver, New England wouldn't be offering him up for trade.

I agree with most. I pass on trading picks for an undesized, over 30, slot WR who wants a new contract. You crazy, man.

No way in hell, he wants like 10 million a season, plus I think he's on the franchise this year.

We'd be paying a 2nd round pick for 14 games of usage with our current crop of QB's.

I'd give up a 2nd round pick for a good LT. But no one is going to trade one of those.

I think they're doing two things.

1. They really are trying to move to a more TE offense.

2. They want to bring down his price. If they offer 7-8 a season after not playing him that much, he can't really point to his stats.

I don't think they're intentionally trying to tank him. They've just pushed him down the option list. He's no longer the 1st and maybe not even the 2nd.

I will say that them re-signing Branch and picking up Winslow might be telling. It'll be interesting to see how much time they'll get compared Welker.

He's still going to catch a good amount. Just not the insane numbers he had recently. Which sucks of course, cuz he's on my fantasy team.

We could trade a second round pick for him, and then trade him to the Jets for a first round pick. Jets are desperate for WR's. but Bellichek wouldn't trade with them.

Ok now that would make sense and we should do that if we could.

Key word in that sentence is if.

That 2nd round pick you speak of could potentially be used to draft a future left tackle or be used as a bargaining chip to move up in the draft to get one of the top QBs in the 2013 draft provided Kolb or Skelton don't drastically improve.

We are not hemorrhaging at wide receiver at the moment. Roberts is turning into a solid red zone threat and we are still developing Michael Floyd. In addition, Welker is 31 years-old.
