Welcome to the Age of Ayton
An 11 game win streak should, along with our record, should put us at least at #3. A win against the Spurs tomorrow night should put us at #1.
Chaplin said:The Mavs record against us is irrelevant. If a person writes a Power Rankings article that is based on total records, then why do a weekly Power Ranking at all?
The point of a Power Ranking is to gauge who the best teams are in a particular week. The Mavs lost 2 games in the last week--one of which was to Phoenix, who was perfect last week.
That in itself, and taking the original intent of a "Power Ranking", should put us above them. Because THIS WEEK, we have been, and PROVEN, mind you, that we have been a better team. Next week might be different, but that is for the next installment.

Mar. 8, 2006 -- Welcome to NBA.com's 19th Power Rankings of 2005-06, which come out every Wednesday this season. Please note that these rankings are the view of one humble NBA.com Features Editor and are not "official" rankings. Have a comment? Let us know. If you fear change, these might not be the rankings for you. That's because a big shakeup is in order. For the first time in 2005-06, a team not named the Mavericks, Pistons or Spurs holds down the top spot in the rankings. In fact, the trio's stranglehold on the rankings top positions has been so constant that we've only had two teams (the Sixers on Nov. 16 and the Grizzlies on Dec. 7) sneak into spots No. 1, 2 or 3. This week, we're doubling that number.
Now, on to the rankings...
High jump of the week: Cleveland and Denver (+4)
Free fall of the week: New Jersey (-6)

3

You must be registered for see imagesDetroit (1) 48-11 How to separate yourself in the quest for the league's best record? Well, six of seven games vs. teams with losing records can't hurt.
5
You must be registered for see imagesDallas (2) 47-13 A week ago, it was plausible to envision the Mavs getting past the West's elite. Losses to Spurs and Suns, though, have made us re-think that.
6
You must be registered for see imagesCleveland (10) 35-26 LeBron had led the Cavs in scoring in 23 straight games. That didn't happen Tuesday, but No. 23 and the Cavs got the W anyway and look to be back on track to make the playoffs.
7
You must be registered for see imagesIndiana (8) 30-27 The Pacers have three straight roadies this week. Despite winning three of its last four away from Conseco, Indy is still only 12-17 on the road this season.
