It's clear that our 2008 Opening Day Roster is complete. FSN writers among others are saying we are the frontrunners in the NL West, of course we still have to live up the expectations and win ball games. The question is what are we going to do about Orlando Hudson? He is slated as our 2B but is a FA at the end of the year. ARZ is cash strapped as it is probably will not be able to afford him, even Orlando feels his tenure with the club is coming to an end.

With Emilio Bonafacio waiting in the wings as a guy that could fill our lead off role do we consider moving Hudson by the trade deadline and re-stock our farm system and gain some of the prospects we gave up in the Haren trade. Or do we keep him and collect compensatory picks for him if he bolts as a FA?

I think it is that he could possibly fill a hole that this team has had at least since the days when Tony Womack didn't suck.

The Dbacks need a true leadoff hitter, someone who can get on base and put pressure on the defense with his speed. Maybe Bonafacio can be that.

Still, I don't want them to get rid of Hudson. My big fear is that they were going to resign one of Hudson and Byrnes, and that they made their choice and it was the wrong one.

We still have one of the best farms in baseball. We really only gave up 2 prospects - Anderson and Gonzalez (IMO, Anderson is the better prospect). We got good a prospect back in Gutierrez in the Valverde trade. Plus, we have Jarrod Parker who is legit and is probably a top-3 prospect (in our system) already.

Byrnes clearly knows what he's doing and I have 100% faith in him. Thank God he traded for Haren, it's time for you to stop worrying about the prospects we traded to get him

I want good defense at 2B. If Hudson is too expensive then let him walk but we need very solid defense up the middle. I'm not sure if Bonafacio is the answer but he might be

Not worried about the prospects we gave up. I asked should we re-stock our farm with prospects we would get for Hudson or let him walk (reading too much into the question). I am happy with the trade and was concerned about giving up Scherzer and maybe a big leaguer like Jackson.

Our system is good but it has been depleted whether you believe it or not. We gave up 4 of our Top 10 prospects according to the BA Top 10 list so those "other" players you speak of were in our Top 10 w/ the exception of Eveland & Smith. On top of that alot of our minor league prospects have made it into the Bigs so they will need to be replaced.

Before you try to criticize (Devil), I hope we keep Hudson but the situation will come up at the trading deadline and where we are in the playoff hunt will determine the outcome.

I don't think Hudson will be with us after this season. He is a solid player that was major to our success last season. Of course I don't want him to go, but he wants more then what we'll be able to pay. In my opinion, signing Eric Byrnes to 3 years and 30 mil was a mistake. Especially when the guy totally choked in the playoffs except for like one homer.

Anyways, we still have Bonifacio who can be the guy at 2nd to replace Hudson. And maybe Bonifacio could be the leadoff hitter. I just think that Hudson should have gotten a contract extension, and not Byrnes.
