What are the odds we see Trevor Bauer and/or Tyler Skaggs this year?

Which of these two would we most likely see first if one were to come up? ALso what do you think the odds are we see one if not both in the rotation this year?

My guess is Bauer. But since I have both of them on the bench in my Fantasy league, I think they both may be up before the year is over. It is a long year.

What are the odds we have to trade a prospect to get hitting?

Early indications are that Ryan Roberts had a career year last year and that Goldy has not made the adjustments. The offense except for Young looks putrid and where did Parra's bat go? It could be a long season with no bats.

Roberts' 2011 was a stretch better than his 2009 but those numbers are somewhat comparable. His 2012 is looking like his 2010. It's hard to tell what the aberration is, or what kind of player he is. The only thing he does consistently is be inconsistent.

Pretty sure we're going to see Corbin before Bauer. Corbin is a 1.5 years older, is a lefty, and throws more strikes ... the kind of guy you'd expect to see on the back end of rotation. I think the D-Backs would really like to know what they've got to decide how much energy they should invest in him. Bauer is much more a known quantity and can still clearly benefit in the minors learning how to be more efficient with the strike zone and his pitch count. Even if you believe Bauer and trust he's not an arm injury risk, throwing 110+ pitches a game (regardless of the innings) still = bad baseball. High pitch counts put the defense to sleep and can even kill the rhythm of an offense.

If either one of them can hit we can use 'em right now!

Agreed. I just think we are trying to pull every ball instead of going with the pitch and taking what they give us. Just my opinion.

Bauer pitched 7 innings, gave up 1 hit, struck out 5 but also walked 5. No idea what his pitch count was but he seemed to never get any outs early in an at bat. Mobile won 11-0. He seems ultra competitive, he never left an inning with a smile on his face and never seemed satisfied.

Matt Davidson looked pretty good at 3B, made some good throws and had a couple of good hits, including a stand up double.

Bauer's first triple A start was an impressive one, he pitched 8 innnings, striking out 11, walking only one and giving up one run. I'm guessing it won't be too long before we see him pitching for the Diamondbacks.

Since he's a starter the question is do they bring him up to go to the pen or is he going to be replacing someone in the rotation and just who would that be? Sure isn't going to be Saunders unless they trade him. Isn't he making like 8 mil this year?

I think they will be looking at trades for bats when they bring him up.

He's a for-sure starter. If they bring him up, he's going to take someone's place in the rotation at least for 3 games. My guess is he'll stick and be there for good. He's a quality start waiting to happen.

Heard a good one today. D-Back should move Saunders to bring up Bauer and then Miley replaces Saunders as the permanent lefty in the rotation.

Rotation would be.
Kennedy
Hudson(once healthy and Corbin goes down)
Cahill
Bauer
Miley

I wonder if Saunders can get either anything worth while.

Saunders is 30 going on 31. I think if they don't want him on the roster, they just release him. More than likely he goes to the pen and Zagurski goes back to AAA

If Saunders bucks up and agrees to going to the pen, this would be a very solid move.

I'd bet he'd want to go back to Anaheim but they don't need him in the rotation, either. I think he has no choice but to play out his contract this year. I doubt he wants to sit out until July to see which team might bid for him, so he might as well sit in the pen and collect his $230K per week salary.

So if we do send Saunders to the Red Sox (or ?), do we bring up the lefty Miley or go with Bauer?

Not sure who is the odd man out but I see Bauer being called up in a week or so.

Interesting question. Kennedy is our reigning ace, although Miley has been, by far, our best starting pitcher this season. Hudson has horrible stats but has just returned from shoulder surgery. Cahill has been middle of the road, but has given up a lot of walks (as has Hudson). And Saunders has also been middle of the road and is our only starter over age 30.

With the exception of Miley, who earns an "A", the rest of the starters are all "C", except Hudson (who gets a D-minus but can't be compared evenly because of the injury).

P I T C H E R....AGE....GS....W-L....ERA.....K.....BB.....AVG

Kennedy(R).......27.....12.....5-5....3.93....71....19... .270
Hudson(R)........25.......6.....2-1....6.06....21.....10... .308
Cahill(R)..........24......12.....4-5....3.36....54.....32... .246
Saunders(L).....31......11.....3-4....3.65....44.....17... .279
Miley(L)..........25........9.....7-2....2.53....41.....16.. .225

I think it's most definitely Saunders. If age, contract, and performance aren't enough, Bauer is actually a terror to lefties. He breaks lefty bats with that front-door two-seamer. He can also start it on the plate and break it off. Pretty good control for a 92MPH 2SM. His trouble, if you can call that, has been against the righties, but that's where both fastballs should become more effective over time in the bigs.

This one's not even up for debate, IMO. Unless Hudson has further injury we don't know about, it's inconceivable his numbers continue to be that inflated. Kennedy's made an adjustment that, for one game, had him looking like Kennedy. Cahill has had the most dominating stuff (when he's been on) and Miley has provided the most quality starts.

But like I said before, I think it's Saunders to the pen and Mike Zagurski to Reno. They only use Zagurski when there's no one else, and even then it's just an inning at a time.
