RALEIGH, N.C. ― No, 1 seed Florida basketball faces a familiar postseason foe when it takes on eight-seed UConn on Sunday afternoon at the Lenovo Center.
The Florida Gators (31-4) are 1-5 all-time against UConn and 1-1 against the Huskies in the NCAA Tournament. In 2014, UConn beat Florida 63-53 in the Final Four in Arlington, Texas, and went on to win the national championship. In 1994, though, Florida upset top seed UConn 69-60 in overtime in the Sweet 16 in a season that ended with the Gators reaching the Final Four for the first time in program history.
Florida has played at a high level offensively during its current seven-game, March win streak. UF has averaged 94.0 points per game during the stretch, on 10.9 3-pointers, 19.1 free throws and 17.4 assists per contest.
Florida advanced in the NCAA Tournament with a 95-69 win over 16-seed Norfolk State, while UConn advanced with a 67-59 win over 9-seed Oklahoma. The Huskies have won 13 straight NCAA Tournament games under head coach Dan Hurley.
"The run we've been on — you know, if it wasn't for all of my antics and viral moments, obviously there would be more focus on just what we've accomplished as a program the last three years," Hurley said. "It's been an amazing run, one of the best runs anyone's had."
Florida and UConn are slated to tip off at 12:10 p.m. ET on Sunday from the Lenovo Center (cap. 19,500) in Raleigh, N.C.
Florida and UConn will air on CBS and stream Paramount Plus and Fubo, which offers a free trial for subscribers. Ian Eagle will handle play-by-play duties, with Bill Raftery and Grant Hill as the color analysts. Tracy Wolfson will work courtside.
