Mississippi State women's basketball begins its March Madness run with Saturday's first-round game against 8-seed Cal in Los Angeles.
The Bulldogs (21-11) have been close in getting a breakthrough win, including the 68-64 loss to Texas on Feb. 27. With a win Saturday, Mississippi State can have another shot at a big-time victory in the second round.
Cal (25-8) excelled in its first ACC season, collecting wins over NC State and Alabama as the headliners.
The winner will play the USC-UNC Greensboro winner in the second round on Monday.
