If a men's basketball team from the Garden State is going to make the NCAA Tournament, then the Princeton Tigers are the state's last hope.

Princeton is the only New Jersey school left in conference play that can earn an automatic bid to the Big Dance starting next week.

It'll be no easy task for Princeton, who take on Yale and Ivy League Player of the Year Bez Mbeng in the tournament semifinal Saturday afternoon from the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, Rhode Island.

In order for head coach Mitch Henderson to lead the Tigers to a conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance for the second time in three seasons, they're going to have to find a way to finally get past the Bulldogs.

Yale won both regular-season matchups against Princeton, a 77-70 win in New Jersey on Jan. 31 and a dominant 84-57 victory on their home court on Feb. 15.

With a 20-7 record, including a stellar 13-1 mark in conference play, the Bulldogs were regular-season champions, the first time a school other than Princeton won the league in five years, with the last one coming in the 2019-20 season.

With the semifinals taking place Saturday afternoon, here's how the Tigers got here:

Princeton's hot start dampened by sluggish finish

Princeton came out of the gates strong, winning 14 of its first 18 games. However, the Tigers struggled over the final six weeks of the regular season, posting a 5-6 record with three of those losses coming by double digits, including a 32-point loss in their final road game of the season at Cornell on March 2.
