The St. John's Red Storm ran away from the Omaha Mavericks in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night in Providence, beating the Mavs, 83-53, in front of 11,434 fans at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.

RJ Luis Jr. paced the Big East champs with 22 points. Simeon Wilcher added 13 points and Zuby Ejiofor and Kadary Richmond both chipped in 10.

Earlier in the night, No. 10 Arkansas (21-13), rode a gritty second-half performance to a 79-72 first-round triumph over No. 7 Kansas (21-13). The Razorbacks' Jonas Aidoo played hero with 22 points to lead Arkansas. Johnell Davis finished with 18 points and DJ Wagner added 14 in the win.

The result is the matchup most college basketball fans were hoping for — coaches John Calipari and Rick Pitino meeting for the right to advance to the Sweet 16 round.
