"The Bears are what we thought they were," he said, his voice raising. "We played them in preseason. Who the hell picks a third game in preseason like it's (expletive)? We played them in the third game. Everybody played three quarters. The Bears are who we thought they were. That's why we took the damn field. If you want to crown them, just crown their asses. They are who we thought they we were, and we let them off the hook!"

I have no idea what that means. Does anyone?

I think he was referring to the fact that we totally outplayed the Bears in that week 3 preseason game, where everyone plays their starters. We were able to dominate them then, so it wasn't a surprise that we could do the same again in this game. That the Bears weren't an unbeatable team, but the same team as the team we won over in pre-season.

Not the 85 Bears as the media thought? Actually I think he was mad about all the pub the Bears were getting as he doesn't like the press anyway. It was his way of reminding them of their stupidity and what a mistake it is to declare greatness at this point in the season.

I think he means that they don't think the Bears are special and that the game plan they used in preseason was the same game plan they used Monday night and it worked (almost) both times. Basically, nothing the Bears did was a surprise to them.

He felt he had a handle on who the Bears were and was confident we could handle them. He was right. We could.

But we didn't - at least not during the final 16 minutes of the game. ("We let them off the hook.") That's what frustrated him.

The number of things that went wrong didn't shock me. They're typical of what losing teams let happen. Winning coaches have a healthy paranoia that keeps them up all night wondering "Even though we're ahead by 20 points with a quarter to go, what could possibly go wrong?"

They mull over things like the other team ripping off a long punt return or our QB fumbling a snap or a late-game fumble or a bunch of interference calls late in the game or a roughing penalty or a multitude of other things that could blow up in their faces.

And they spend a lot of time during the week making certain those types of potential problems are worked on so that they won't happen during games.

I remain a DG supporter, but I don't get the feeling he thinks that way. Perhaps he should.

The Bears are not as good as their record. The only good team they beat was Seattle. And if ya look at the rest of the season they only play maybe 4 good teams.
They'll get exposed out in the play-offs, they're over rated.

Sep 10 @Green Bay Won 26-0
Sep 17 Detroit Won 34-7
Sep 24 @Minnesota Won 19-16
Oct 1 Seattle Won 37-6
Oct 8 Buffalo Won 40-7
Oct 16 @Arizona Won 24-23
Week 7 BYE
Oct 29 San Francisco
Nov 5 Miami
Nov 12 @N.Y. Giants
Nov 19 @N.Y. Jets
Nov 26 @New England
Dec 3 Minnesota
Dec 11 @St. Louis
Dec 17 Tampa Bay
Dec 24 @Detroit
Dec 31 Green Bay

Here is what he meant.

We watched a lot of film on them, and we had a real good game plan to beat them. We totally shut them down on Offense. And our scripted plays got us 14 points. I don't think we should have been the underdog we were, it was basically our second time playing them and we had a feel for what they were going to do. They won a lucky game tonight, championships aren't won in the Media.

I liked what he said. It meant that they fully expected to win that game. And, by the way they rolled the Bears in the first half, you could tell the team believed. So, as of last week, the coaching staff had not "lost" the team despite much speculation here.

Dennis Green and his staff really had the Cards ready to play ball. Kudos...I'll give kudos where they are due. We knew exactly what they were doing...it was beautiful.

It wasn't even that we got out adjusted. We got too conservative.

No, the first half was coached excellently. One of my huge criticisms is that we always came out flat and gave up an early TD and had to play from behind.

Last two weeks we have really worked on that. Dennis Green looks like he is still capable of turning some things around. I've called for his head...but if he can prove that he can keep fixing things from week to week....he should retain his job.

My problem with Dennis Green is that he is too hands off

When things started going south a good head coach talks to his players and encourages, cajoles, yells, something. He tries to motivate people not stand on the sideline yelling into a headset. He could have gone over to the O-line before that last series and pumped them up. Did he? I wasn't there but Green seems to coach through the coordinators and minimally at that. He's the freakin Head coach and if we weren't happy with the play calling or mix of plays he can freaking change the direction they are going. Instead he throws people under the bus. I think this team is rudderless and that is the problem.

Very good. You could get a job at the U N or as Green's handler.

That's only one style, and many coaches who use that style suck out loud. One Heartbeat comes to mind.

There are a lot of styles of management, and there is no singular "right way" to manage.

And our scripted plays got us 14 points.

Why do so many people think this?

The "scripted" plays got us 7 points. Short fields after turnovers accounted for the next 13 and the Cards had a 13 play 49 yard drive in the third quarter that got them their final FG.

i can no longer read posts/watch a game/read the papers etc...gets me far too sick...so jeff our "other cardinals lost tonight" maybe we will get a little payback tomorrow night and make it to the world series.....

from what i heard indirectly...we were up by less than a td with 2 plus minutes left and we punted to hester and not out of bounds? is that possible...did that really happen?? has zauner looked at any film??? or read common sense 101??

I believe he threw a fit and stormed out so he didn't have to stay and explain how they blew the lead.

I don't want the guy fired but I thought he made an ass of himself after the game.

Yep. Locker room blowups and heated arguments occur fairly often on every sports team over the course of a season. Some drive teams apart while others may unite a team. Or more often than not it's just a minor footnote in the overall story of a season.
