I've noticed that Griese has better numbers than most of the other veterans available. At least if you only look at the last few years ( take away when he played at Miami )). He's younger than Garcia, Johnson, Bledsoe and he seems to be on the way up and the others stats show that they're on the way down. What do you think ?

actually, i will not be surprised if they do let griese go. i think i read somewhere that his cap number may be prohibitive and that they intend on going with simms anyway.

I've read the same thing. I think they are going to release him.

sucks. If he couldn't succeed in Denver, why would he succeed here.

I don't want a guy that Jake Plummer was good enought to replace.

His biggest problem in Denver, IMO, is that he immediately followed John Elway. Nobody would have been good enough to follow Elway in the eyes of the fans. I think even the front office had expectations that were too high. Denver has been spiled for a very long time in terms of a QB. I think they're starting to realize that most QBs have flaws and they'll have to live with them.

Yeah, Greise had some problems, but they were fairly minor. He is a very, very accurate passer. I think he'll continue to get better as he matures. If he's released I would love to see him as a Cardinal.

I was down in Tampa recently and if Griese won't re-structure his contract then he is gone.I believe he has something like a 6.5 million dollar roster bonus due to him and the Bucs have no intention of paying that.

I'd look seriously at Griese........my sense is that he's matured to the point that he's now ready to start to become a very solid starting QB. He also is a bona fide answer to our QB situation......McCown would have real competition for the #1 role and if he didn't grab it, he's a solid back up for the next season at least.

Wow! His stats are VERY impressive. Heres a guy that could be a long term answer.

# 8 Brian Griese

Only thirty years old. This years stats and career stats are VERY impressive. Stats that stand out is Yards per attempt which is over 7, his td to int. ratio, and his completion percentage.

Here's the hitch. Didn't he have some personal problems? I believe he had a terrible bout with alcohol. I don't want to condemn the guy but it was a concern at one time.

That aside, if you prorate his stats as a starter in all 16 games this year he would have had close to 4000 yards passing and over 30 td's.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

He has a $6 million roster bonus coming up shortly, so unless the Bucs and Griese's agent come up with a deal in the next week or so he's going to be cut.

Unfortunately like Bledsoe, I think there is going to be a bidding war for his services that will put him out of our price range.

Greise could very well end up here. He's the kind of QB that Green likes. A gamemanager rather than a gunslinger - a younger version of Brad Johnson.

He is a HUGE upgrade from McCown IMO. Does tend to throw the stupid interception on occasion but is a darn good QB IMO.

As Pariah said, his problem in Denver was following John Elway. He is NOT Elway, but not many are eh?

I don't think he'll end up here but I wouldn't be outraged if he did. And, he would NOT come in here to compete with Josh, he would beat him flat out with ease.

Did he manage to beat his alcohol problem? Or was that just a rumor? I don't recall.

There were a lot of whispers when he was in Denver. There was the "he fell down his stairs because he tripped over his dog story" and then a year later he was at a party and left with two black eyes, a chipped tooth and a concussion because he "tripped".

I never saw any "Griese has put his problems behind him type stories", but there was nothing negative about his stint in Tampa. Guys can beat problems like this. Kerry Collins was a drunk and a general bufoon for the first half of his career before he saw the light and became a model citizen.

Definately something any team thinking about signing Griese (including the Cards) needs to research thoroughly.

Rumors, but they may have merit. I don;t think it's a huge deal, if he likes to drink so be it, IMO. It hasn't gotten him into much trouble, I don't think.

Someone mentioned a "gunslinger" mentality. I don't think that's an apt description in Griese's case. He makes a poor decision now and again, but overall he's fairly measured when it comes to his choices with the ball. In fact, that's been a critisism--that he hangs on to it too long and takes uncessissary sacks. I could live with that.

As I've said before, if Griese is released he jumps way ahead of the pack as far as FA QBs go.

Remember, we once had a runningback break his hand "answering the phone"...... unless of course the phone had a few too many drinks and insulted the runningback's girlfriend at a bar I am not sure how that happens....

I thought we should have looked at him when he left Denver.

We should have made a push for Greise. We certainly had the cash. - July 17, 2003.

He was and remains a young QB with a lot of upside potential. Far more than most of the other options currently available to us.

Griese would be my no. 1 target for the QB postion if we could sign him. He is very accurate and a guy who could get the ball to our recievers.

I think he'll go to Tampa, then a year later they'll talk about maybe releasing him because his cap hit might be too high. Then, all of us on the board will discuss his pros and cons, and someone will say he's still in Miami.
