What does today's win over the Spurs say about this team?

I think this team now believes it can compete and beat the Spurs at their own game. If Shaq can play like he did today, Duncan will have his hands full. Of course guys like Hill, Barbosa and Bell can't disappear.

Now let's see how this team responds to this big win.

We need to build confidence and this game should hopefully go a long way. All the other top teams are playing with very high confidence and the Suns need to reach that level before the playoffs.

And Hill played very well, putting up 18/6. As for Bell and Barbs, we absolutely need at least one of them to hit his outside shots. When they both struggle, we usually lose.

I think we need games out of Nash, Amare, Hill and Shaq like todays, along with a good game from one of Barbosa, Bell and Diaw, and we roll over any team. ANY team.

The most impressive thing today was Nash's defense on Parker. Steve absolutely stepped up in that regard.

another totally unnecessary thread.

What's wrong with celebratory threads?

Hell, we get about six threads every time someone wants to complain about something or if D'Antoni says something, but we can't let people post when they're happy?

Do you not enjoy the wins?

It says they can win of course and if they continue to gel they have a shot. I also think it says that the Suns are still on the bubble. It says they are still questionable on the perimeter. It says they still have no confidence in their bench or are unwlling to work them in. They most telling thing was the gamble that D'Antoni took by keeping both Amare and Shaq out there with 5 fouls. Maybe they are trying to extend Shaq in order to get him in shape, but I think they are going to need Skinner and maybe DJ in the playoffs and they won't be ready if you don't work them in now.

another totally unnecessary thread.

And another totally unnecessary post. Why butt into every thread and deem it unnecessary? This board is filled with negative threads, so why not a few positive ones too?

Because arwillian doesn't like the Suns. So he makes an unnecessary post on what (to him) is an unnecessary thread.

I think that we should all chill out. This forum is designed for Suns fans to discuss their team. I can see editing stuff like profanity or other offensive materials, but c'mon, we should all be able to vent. This board doesn't need to be a model of efficiency, just a place where some like minded individuals can vent about sports.

This win was huge. Nuff said. There's not that much time left to keep sliding like we were. The next game will be telling. The Suns need to show this wasn't luck like the Boston game by winning a few in a row.

Amare needs to learn to stay out of foul trouble. He is usually a Sterns killer but was limited today. Barbosa can't do anything against Sterns. We need him to hit few threes coming off the bench to open up the game.

This game tells us what we already knew- Suns are a damn good team that can beat anybody. They CAN play defense, they CAN rebound, they CAN get stops, they CAN make big shots.

Now we need to see them do these with consistancy.

i like the suns just as much as the next guy, i just think we can ask questions like this and discuss them in the game thread or in one "post-game thoughts" kind of thread. i enjoy the wins, of course, but i just don't want to get my hopes up too much as of late. To me, we are still the team that gave up 41 points in the 4th quarter of a big game at home. Of course i'm thrilled that we beat the spurs, especially because my best friend is a spurs fan, but i just want to make sure everyone else knows that this isn't as big as people think. The spurs shot the ball poorly and were in it until the very end. we can't even necessarily attribute their shooting to our defense, it could have just been a bad shooting day for them (much like when we played boston).

what a great contribution to the thread! would it not be easier to simply put a period (.) rather than say 'period'? anyway, if you feel I'm too negative, feel free to excercise your right to ignore me. i have an opinion just as much as you do, like it or not.

Although I'm not willing to pronounce the Suns ills cured, I wont discredit the defense they played against the Spurs. I think they were a big part of the Spurs poor shooting. It's not like the Suns were shooting lights out either. The Suns had alot of open looks that they just missed. The best apart about this game was that the Suns came back in the 4th when that was something they haven't been doing. The Suns showed they are not out of it yet and if they continue to gel they stand a chance of going all the way. I think it will be a hard road without a true point gaurd to spell Nash. That could be the biggest failure of the year.

It says that the suns don't need to score 100+ points to win a game. I hate it when I see 110+ games that don't go to OT. I mean, basically no defense if that would happen.

i think you're absolutely right. i don't think we played bad defense or anything like that. Shaq was instrumental in stopping Duncan, which is the main reason we brought him in here. he also did an excellent job on boozer the other night. i was simply pointing out that teams just go cold from time to time, not necessarily because of good or bad defense. we can't prove either side to be true as defense is nearly impossible to measure with stats. I simply have a hard time believing that we are magically cured of our defensive deficiencies that caused us that disastrous 4th quarter at home the other night is all. Some people seem to think this is the case. I agree that after this game i see the suns as contenders, however it will be hard. We need to give Linton Johnson some more time, for starters. Other than that, we can't do much to improve our team at this point. every team has their holes, and a backup pg is ours. We'll simply have to find a way around that.

It's really not like that. I'm just stating an observation. And I think I have said it on a couple different occasions so it's not like it should catch you off guard. I'm not mad at you - I just feel bad that you are so overly negative and distraught over something as enertainment driven as basketball.

And I'll use my punctuation/verbiage how I please thank you:)

Plus it was my first post since being banned or a week. I'm easing myself in;)

No worse than "another totally unnecessary thread."
