And no there is no comma between James and Darling. I'm resigned to the reality that Edge is what he is regarding pre-season and hopefully turns it on in game one.

What about bringing back Darling for an incentive-based deal and plugging him in at either one of the inside spots, moving Dansby back outside *or* replacing the unimpressive Blackstock/Pace duo at OLB?

Assuming he's kept himself in some kind of condition and I haven't missed his signing with another team, what is the downside? We need all the linebackers we can get with this new 3-4 and he could potentially contribute on special teams and provide some sorely lacking veteran savvy at the LB position.

Am I dreaming *or* is it worth a shot?

that's a great idea. he at least has instincts and plays hard every down. there are a lot of worthless lb's on this team we could go without to clear a spot.

Great idea!

James has not signed with another team. However, he should be given (and deserves) a guaranteed roll. As we witnessed again on Saturday, the defense needs help and leadership. Something that James Darling can supply by the boat load! Bring back #51 NOW!

What did happen to James Darling?
Did his contract expire? Wasn't offered a new deal?
I thought he was one of the better linebackers in this league.
I'm surpised other teams haven''t made a bid for him.

Maybe he doesn't want to play! I'm not sure of his age but I believe it's 35. He played 10 years in the league and is currently a free agent.

Do we even know if he's in football shape or can pass a physical? It's not as though guys on the street can necessarily press a magical button and suddenly be good to go.
