What if we don't sign JJ? Doesn't that free up money? ;)

I know we wouldn't get a player of JJ's caliber in return, but if we didn't resign JJ, couldn't we go after other free agents and become a deeper team? I hate to lose JJ, but we could end up a better team depth wise if we didn't sign him. It's a possibility. ;)

Im pretty certain that the Suns only free up the amount that he was being paid on his rookie contract. ...Which is something around 2-4 million, I believe.

Can anyone verify?

I am no salary cap expert but I am pretty sure the cap is set up to be able to sign your own players and go over the cap but you can't go sign other FA unless you are under the cap, so it's not like the Suns will have an extra 14 million spend somewhere else.

They have some of their mid lvl exception left like maybe a million or so and their vet min exceptions.

so it is a lose lose if they don't sign him. I think.

the problem with this is that if we dont sign JJ we only would get his salery back from last year not what we would be getting for the future. and because we will be over the cap we wont even get that back. so we can only sign players for the min or the LLE we have left. in other words if we dont sign jj we maybe SOL.

on a other note when was the last time you can honestly say that the suns came out as losers in the offseason? the only time i can think of was the mcdyess. the suns really dont lose in the off season.

We are over the cap so no we won't. We basically used all our MLE on Bell.
