If we touch a RB in the draft, then we may as well trade Shipp.

Split time with Emmitt while McGahee heals... showcase his skills, then trade him in the 2004 draft for a chance to move up and nab Roy Williams or Rashaun Woods.

We're not talking baby steps here!!!
We're talking about punching the rest of the NFL in the face baby!!!

Why? The Broncos had three 1000 yard rushers on their roster at the end of last season (four if you count TD). You can't have too many good backs. Look at what J-Ville did for years with Freddy Taylor and Stacey Mack.

If we draft McGahee, we won't have to trade up to get either of those two.

If he'd have not had this latest injury he would have been the best athlete in the draft by far, he was that good of an athlete before the injury.

I gotta admit I'm really pulling for the kid to make it back unless another NFC west team winds up with him. I just hate to see great players get hurt like that.

Pre wonderlic I thought for sure he'd be dead last.

See, he spent his offseason studying instead of partying, unlike Suggs.

kidding, kidding...

Interesting debate.

I wouldn't want to take McGahee if we didn't have extra picks so this is yet another reason the Cards should trade down early and often.

I never compained about the signing of Emmitt because you can never have enough depth, especially at RB. So I'm not concerned about Shipp wasting away on the bench because if he can't get playing time then obviously our RB's ahead of him are awesome.

Two knee injuries may mean he's injury prone but anyone who saw the hit with this injury must realize just how unlucky and horrible the hit was. If McGahee was a horse they would have shot him on the field where he layed. I think most other players would have never walked normally again. The fact that this kid is doing all of these things at this point highlights how special his healing powers are. He may never be the same again but even if he gets back to 90% of where he was he will be a great value pick in the 2nd rd.

Section 11 and kerouac9 (just kept typing vowels, hope I got it right) make very valid points about the future of this team. I truly believe that a very good player will still be available at #37 that doesn't have a huge ? health wise so I wouldn't take McGahee unless we have a couple of extra picks.

Didn't he get hurt on the Cards playing surface?Mcgahee will be gone by #37 anyway.Clayton and Kiper and somewhere else all have stated he will not make it out of round 1.Guys come back from knee injuries all the time now.Now if he was an older, heavier back then it would eb more of a concern.Butafter sitting this year he will be a total stud in 2004.

"a healthy McGahee would be the second best prospect behind Roy Williams"... and if the Queen had a penis she'd be the King.

Forget this guy. First off he's not going to make it out of the first round. Someone will take a flier on him if only because this draft is so up in the air, but with two knee injuries how could we commit the kind of $ to him that even the second round would call for w/o knowing if he could help us at all? We'd be better off to hold onto Jones and draft someone we think can help then waste a pick under these conditions on him.

If he's there at #37, I'm all over him.

If McGahee didn't get his knee ripped up in the Fiesta Bowl, he might be the number one pick in 2003 and would be the second best prospect behind Charles Rogers.

In the 2004 draft, a healthy McGahee would be the second best prospect behind Roy Williams.

Draft him, tell him to shut it down for a year, give him time to rehab it correctly, learn the playbook, and then bust out in 2004.

Then, in 2004, get one of the 6 or so prime time receivers that will be available, and have one of the top trios in the game. Presto.

Bite the bullet in 2003, gell in 2004, and compete for the prize in 2005.

You didn't write that, did you? I remember reading it under NFL.com or ESPN.com. Not to nit pick, just making sure I'm not losing my mind.

We do not need a running back. We have the best to ever play the position and a stud as a backup. The only interesting thing to see in camp with the running backs is the battle for the 3rd back between Anderson, Scobey, and Prentice.

I really liked the way that Anderson played against Carolina. I am anxious, however, to see some more of Scobey. Anderson will have the early lead going into camp simply because he played last season.

In 2002, the Broncos had three 1000+ yard rushers on their depth chart, and when Clinton Portis fell to them in the second round, they jumped at the opportunity. He rushed for 1500 yards despite not starting for the first quarter of the season.

Trust your board, and if you have McGahee as the highest-rated player when your name comes up, and he's available, you jump all over him.

Not to mention the fact that RB's and QB's have trade value as well. It's not like we're adding multiple long snappers to the roster.

By the way, Big in an accomplished long snapper apparently.
