What is this team's biggest weakness?

I'm going to have to say the secondary is suspect from week to week however the mental focus could cost us down the stretch. You watch the elite teams in the league and they don't get called for holding/block in the back on nearly every kick return nor do they get the continuous drive killing dumb penalties.

Weeks 1-8: Secondary and running game.

Now? I don't know. For the secondary Rolle is playing well, DRC is getting better, Hood and Wilson are top notch. Our running game with Hightower and Arrington is miles faster and more productive than James was, Warner and the WRs are playing lights out, special teams is a highlight of the team this year.

I guess TE? We need Patrick and Pope back.

What a solid team they've built in only 2 years!

Its team discipline. We can't continue to be among the tops in the league in penalties without it eventually costing us a game it shouldn't.

1) Team discipline
2) Inconsintency on almost every part of the team (except passing). Every part of this team can play decent at least to pretty well as they have shown, but they have to do it at a consistent level for us to be a true contender.

First post, woohoo.

Welcome to the forum Rode kardinaal.

The offensive penalties will get us sooner or later. In the Rams game we were able to overcome some of them, but starting drives 1st &15/20 will catch up to you against better teams.

Obviously, the defensive secondary seems to make some ginormous blunder every game.

The biggest weakness is the inability so far to win road games against good teams, see Washington, NY Jets, and Carolina. Even though Seattle has been plagued by injuries and hasn't really played well on offense or defense all year long, the game @ Seattle on the 16th will tell a lot about this team IMO.

The 12th man will be loud as always, and how the Cardinals perform on a short week and on the road in a very hostile environment will tell us a lot about this team. We saw how the Eagles went in and dominated the Seahawks. If the Redbirds do the same, and in just as convincing a fashion, it will be a "statement game."

Punt returning. Penalties. Giving up big plays defensively...

The list was MUCH longer just a few years ago.

Cant figure out why everyone bashes the cornerbacks. I think we have perhaps the best top 3 CB's in the league.

I will say Penalties, Run Blocking, Tackling.

Tackling improved last week - players FINALLY wrapping up instead of trying to knock guys off their pins.
Stupid penalties - HAVE to cut down on those.

easy:

Pass defense.

The Cards are one of only four teams to surrender a combined QB rating above 100 for the season with a 102.

For perspective, Warner has a 102 QB rating right now and is being considered for MVP.

The Cards have a respectable / above average pass rush -- so its on the coverage.

They have given up the following big passing plays:

Week 5: Lee Evans 80 yard TD
Week 6: Patrick Crayton 65 yard TD
Week 6: Marion Barber 65 yard TD
Week 8: Steve Smith 65 yard TD
Week 9: Derrick Stanley (?) 80 yard TD

I like Hood and DRC as our corners with Green in the nickle. Our biggest problem IMO is penalties and consistant tackling. We have come along way!

This teams weakness is not a personnel weakness. It's a mental weakness--they need to keep their head in the game on EVERY play. So far that's been the problem. They give up one or two big plays a game that in which there's a mental breakdown.

The tendency to give up big plays, and the tendency when we really need a stop, to be unable to get it.

If we can just stop the first one(the big plays) the 2nd one won't be a factor nearly as often because our offense is so good we'll have a lot of big leads.
